00:00 Hello, welcome to Evar, where we have our hydrogen-powered truck that will race in the
00:07 Dakar Future Mission 1000.
00:09 Do you want to discover the beast?
00:11 Ok, come with me.
00:12 Do you want me to repeat?
00:41 I'm Jordi Jovanteñ, I'm the driver of the truck behind me.
00:46 I'm Xavi Arribas, I'm the director of Evar, I'm also co-pilot.
00:50 For me, this is the 32.
00:51 We're going to try to make it cleaner than the others.
00:56 The idea was to start using this hydrogen, converting the truck and make it possible
01:00 to make a greener race.
01:03 Our team, we have engineers and technicians which are here in Spain, and then with us
01:19 will be four or five people.
01:20 So every night when we arrive to the Vivac, we will review the truck, we will make our
01:25 checks, we will refill hydrogen.
01:27 So it's a combination of both worlds.
01:29 We need each other and I believe we can do a very good Dakar.
01:40 We separate oxygen and hydrogen from the water using a small hydrolyzer.
01:46 The good point with hydrogen is we can obtain the energy from renewable sources like this
01:53 photovoltaic source or for example with green, windy mills.
02:00 With time, it will be demonstrated that hydrogen is a completely sustainable fuel because water
02:08 is everywhere and the sun is everywhere.
02:12 This hydrogen is compressed at 350 bar in different carbon fiber tanks.
02:21 Then we reduce this pressure between 80 to 50 bar and we inject this hydrogen which is
02:26 free of carbon inside the combustion chamber of the engine.
02:33 Only in one kilo of hydrogen you have much more energy than one kilo of diesel.
02:38 This is more than three times.
02:40 With these small volumes we can store a lot of energy.
02:43 One of the main conditions to face this Dakar was that at least we had the same power
02:52 as we have with the normal truck.
02:54 The engine behaves practically the same.
02:57 There are some small changes that we are going to improve this year and with the same benefits,
03:01 therefore, we are going to face a Dakar as usual, consuming much less fossil fuels.
03:12 We expect that the race will be tough enough so that we can really demonstrate the technology
03:41 in very hard conditions.
03:43 We feel it's more like the original Dakar, with some challenges, new technologies and
03:48 more free to explore this kind of solution.
03:53 We are going to show the world that you can race or continue racing, but intelligently,
04:02 without taking care of the planet.
04:04 And in that we are going to be great pioneers.
04:06 It has a path and we all have to follow it.
04:16 We are going to win.
