Thousands remain without power in Queensland

Thousands of people across far north Queensland are still without power in the wake of cyclone Jasper. The system is moving west into the gulf of Carpentaria where it could redevelop into a cyclone.

00:00 Well, it is still very, very wet here in Mossman to the north of Cairns.
00:06 As you can see behind me here, some roads do remain cut off.
00:09 Now, the city is connected to Cairns to the south, but some of these roads to the north
00:13 are still swallowed by floodwaters, including this one today.
00:17 Some of them went under this morning in the last couple of hours due to high tide, meaning
00:20 some residents who ventured back into town can't get back to their homes.
00:25 Now, in Mossman itself, the town, the power has come back on, there's restaurants and pubs starting to reopen.
00:31 But in other parts of Mossman, power and reception remains cut off.
00:35 Now, further south in Cairns and in Port Douglas, life is getting back to normal.
00:40 Boats are returning to the marina, businesses are reopening, and people are starting to
00:44 put everything back together in the wake of ex-Tropical Cyclone Jasper.
