00:00 Patriots Daily is brought to you by FanDuel, the exclusive wedgering partner of the CLNS
00:04 Media Network.
00:05 May's an interesting one.
00:08 So I was never, and I know this is going to sound crazy to some people, like I remember
00:12 Drake May last year when he came out as a, broke out as a freshman.
00:16 Being like, are we really doing this with Drake May?
00:18 And then he started doing stuff I didn't think he could do.
00:22 And he really impressed the second half of last year and the beginning of this season.
00:26 And then he played a run of kind of bad teams and, and piled up the numbers.
00:30 And look, I'm not going to fault the guy for beating bad teams.
00:32 You need to do that.
00:34 And it's impressive.
00:36 He did not end the season on a high note.
00:37 He had some bad losses.
00:39 He got loose with the football.
00:41 I still can't unsee to your point that he does a lot of the things Mack Jones does.
00:47 They just work.
00:48 It's scary.
00:49 He went to work in the ACC, which was a bad conference this year.
00:54 And he didn't really play any of the best ACC teams.
00:56 He played Duke is pretty much it.
00:59 And Clemson didn't play well against.
01:02 He has tremendous physical tools.
01:05 And for that, he is still an elite quarterback prospect.
01:08 The size, the arm strength, the athletic ability, the speed, that's all there.
01:13 But he also needs to be able to play quarterback.
01:16 So okay.
01:17 Bring up the comment gives Mitch Trubisky vibes.
01:19 I get that.
01:20 And Sam Howell as well.
01:21 He's much more physically gifted than Trubisky and Howell were, but I think the concerns
01:26 are the same.
01:27 Those two guys did not play a lot of college football and they came in very raw and you
01:32 were essentially buying potential.
01:34 You weren't really buying on anything tangible with them.
01:37 I think the hope this year was may would had so much natural ability that he would give
01:42 you something tangible from a football skillset to kind of lock in that pick.
01:47 He kind of did.
01:49 And there are people who will see what they want to see and I understand it, but how does
01:54 that, some of that circus stuff transfer from the ACC to the NFL, if he can still get away
01:59 with it.
02:00 And I'm not saying he can't, if he can transfer that to the NFL.
02:03 Yeah.
02:04 He's worth the second overall pick.
02:06 The Justin Herbert comp is spot on.
02:09 He'll be excellent, but will it transfer?
02:12 This is sorry.
02:13 Last point on it.
02:14 He needs to go.
02:15 He needs to go to the senior role.
02:16 He, if he shows up and it was a big week at the senior bowl, it's like, all right, he
02:19 did it against elite talent.
02:20 We're good.
02:21 We move on.
02:22 If he goes to the senior bowl and struggles, there's going to be serious questions about
02:26 him.
02:27 If he doesn't go to the senior bowl, I'm going to look at that and say, he's worried about
02:31 struggling.
02:32 That's a red flag.
02:33 I need to see Drake may go and have a good week at the senior bowl.
02:36 If he does that, yeah, he's QB too locked in, but he did leave the door open.
02:41 Now the Justin Herbert comp.
02:43 Yeah.
02:44 Like maybe my memory is foggy on Herbert.
02:47 I don't remember part of his scouting report being like maze where he goes outside of structure
02:53 so often or to the degree that it really worries you.
02:57 I felt like it was more that like things are so simple.
03:00 Can he mentally, you know, adapt to the NFL?
03:02 And I know there were questions about his demeanor because obviously he's a guy who
03:05 hates attention and avoids it like actively avoids attention.
03:09 Despite the fact that people put him on him in negative ways that make absolutely no sense.
03:12 I'm looking at you, Ocho, you weirdo.
03:16 That's Herbert.
03:17 But with may, I feel like the physical talents here, like you see the incredible arm strength,
03:21 you see the easy athleticism, but then I also see where Herbert isn't a guy like a Josh
03:27 Allen or like a younger in my homes where he relies on his athleticism with Herbert.
03:32 It's more like every once in a while he'll have a crazy run where you're like, right,
03:35 this guy is six foot five.
03:37 Like he's a massive and he is fast.
03:39 Whereas with may, you know, I started to kind of watch him a little bit more and I realized
03:43 sometimes this guy is trying to run away from pressure and it works, but often not oftentimes,
03:48 but there's more times that I expected where it doesn't.
03:51 And when you're in college and you're trying to escape pass rushers and you can't on any
03:55 kind of consistent basis, but you're someone who tries to use your athleticism, that's
03:59 like, okay, at the NFL, people are only going to get faster.
04:03 So obviously it's like a Caleb Williams situation where like you can coach that out of him,
04:07 but is it really quite the same?
04:08 Because I've seen so many Justin Herbert comments.
04:10 I feel like you look at them.
04:12 It's like tall white kid who's pretty athletic and you know, can throw a pretty ball.
04:16 I feel like that's where a lot of it comes from.
04:18 But I also feel like the things that scare you are more prominent with may than they
04:22 were for Herbert because of Herbert.
04:24 It was more mental.
04:25 Well, I guess both are technically mental, but it was more, can he catch up rather than
04:29 can he kind of pull back on some of the stuff that worries you.
