Update on board Chepstow skipper David Hartshorn's yacht Bekezela in the middle of the Roaring 40s
Transcript
00:00 Almost the end of our watch and we have about 2,800 miles to go until Australia.
00:07 [Screams]
00:09 It's been very stormy and cold last two days.
00:14 Overnight between now and midnight our time locally,
00:17 we are anticipating the cold front to go over the top of it,
00:21 which could be quite aggressive, 30 knots, maybe gusts into the 40s.
00:26 And then with that will come quite a big backing from the south west to the south south west.
00:33 The winds are going to come out across the Antarctic.
00:36 So we are anticipating air temperatures down to about three to five degrees,
00:43 but with a wind chill on top of that and with the warm seas we're going to get fog.
00:47 So the crew are going to get very cold, as is the fleet, over the next few days.
00:52 [Waves crashing]
00:59 There's a lot of water going across the deck with the sea state
01:02 and down below is quite warm, quite cold outside.
01:05 So it's like living in a Charles Dickens novel.
01:08 Everything is wet, damp and the walls are running with condensation.
01:13 So a bit of a living accommodation for the connoisseur of sailing.
01:17 How are you guys doing on deck today?
01:21 Yeah, we're doing all right.
01:23 We've had a fun little evening, a fun few days.
01:26 It's been a bit of wind obviously.
01:31 You guys are catching us up.
01:33 We're getting a little nervous.
01:35 It's 30 miles and it's 15.
01:37 We are coming for you guys.
01:40 I'm very sorry.
01:41 Oh yeah, just keep looking after.
01:43 Standing by on 16.
01:46 16.
