00:00 Thank you so much for your time.
00:01 Thank you.
00:02 We're here at the Biffers.
00:03 It's a night out and a nomination for you, but is the goal tonight to win or are we just
00:06 kind of happy to be here and support what is burgeoning talent in the UK?
00:10 That's the very reason.
00:11 Thank you for feeding me that answer.
00:13 Yeah, no, it's not like...
00:15 We haven't seen each other altogether.
00:18 Paul Metzger's not here, so we're not a full team yet, but since we made the movie,
00:22 so it feels like a really special outing, especially because the film's got so many
00:25 nominations.
00:26 I love the Biffers, I think it's a really important award ceremony to really shine light
00:31 on films that are being made for very little money with extraordinary talent.
00:35 So, yeah, it's a really important evening, I think.
00:37 All of the Strangers is nominated for so many tonight, however, it's such a tease because
00:41 it's not out in the UK until late January.
00:43 I know, isn't that irritating?
00:44 So why haven't we seen it?
00:45 And we're going to talk about it for months on end, but can you whet our appetite of what
00:48 audiences will expect once it finally comes out?
00:51 I think the film is really surprising.
00:54 It's really beautiful, it's very heartfelt, and it manages to achieve something which
00:59 I think is almost virtually impossible, which is it's really hopeful and beautiful and it's
01:03 about love, but in no way is it cynical or schmaltzy.
01:07 It's really genuine and beautiful.
01:09 I'm so proud to be in it.
01:10 So proud.
01:11 I love the word schmaltzy.
01:12 It's a good one, isn't it?
01:14 This is kind of a night where we will see, hopefully, some careers being launched tonight,
01:18 you know, when we can celebrate people who we probably haven't heard of.
01:21 Was there a project or an award that you felt you can attribute to launching your career,
01:27 do you think?
01:28 Like a turning point?
01:29 For me?
01:30 Yeah.
01:31 I don't know.
01:34 I mean, I feel like there's definitely been jobs where you feel like you get the opportunity
01:37 to play a character that you've never been given before and that feels like a real moment
01:41 for you to be handed something so precious almost and something that's quite important
01:47 and you don't want to mess it up.
01:49 I feel like so many directors have trusted in me and given me so many opportunities that
01:52 I think it's because of them that I'm even working.
01:55 So, yeah, but I don't know whether...
01:57 There's been many awards ceremonies where it's been very strange just because I'm there
02:03 and they've been really important for me, but I can't really view it from the outside like that.
02:08 We're looking at, obviously, independent film in 2023 tonight.
02:11 How are you going to look back on 2023 as a year in film, do you think?
02:15 Not just at the indies, but also as a whole, as an industry.
02:18 How would you review it?
02:19 I think it's been a really difficult year because of the strike for so many people.
02:22 I think it's really important to notice that it impacted so many actors, but also so many
02:28 creators, so much of the crew and so many people have had a lesser year because of it.
02:33 But it was so incredibly important and I hope that so many positives have come out of it.
02:39 But I just think it's been a really tough year.
02:41 But I hope for everyone to understand that I suppose these things have to be done and
02:48 also that here we all are and that things are still being made and the rush for the
02:53 industry to get back is really important.
02:56 Can I end on a cheeky crown question?
02:58 Obviously, it's about ten days away from the entire series being closed and finished forever.
03:03 Do you feel like you've already closed the chapter on that or is this going to be also
03:06 a bit of a closure for you as well once it finally comes to a complete end?
03:11 No, I mean, I haven't been in it for...
03:19 Series one and two were a very long time ago.
03:21 I can't even do the maths, so I'm not going to try.
03:24 You're in the third season just a little bit as well.
03:26 Sorry?
03:27 You're in the third season just a little bit as well.
03:28 Got a little cheeky cameo.
03:29 Yeah, yeah, but you know what I mean.
03:31 So I feel like I very much remember it so fondly and it was such an important period
03:37 of my life and I'm really proud to have been part of the show.
03:40 I think it tried to do something really interesting and I think Imelda's extraordinary and I think
03:46 it will be a really significant moment in television.
