In the aftermath of the January 6th, attack on the U.S. Capitol, then-House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy played a pivotal role in rehabilitating former President Donald Trump within the Republican Party. However, when McCarthy faced a leadership challenge in October 2023, Trump refrained from intervening, leading to McCarthy's removal as House Speaker. In a phone call afterward, Trump criticized McCarthy for not endorsing him for the 2024 presidential race and not expunging his two impeachments. McCarthy allegedly told Trump "F--- you" in a call, according to unnamed sources. His spokesperson denies this, asserting that they have a good relationship, while a spokesperson for Trump offered no comment.
