Indian workers trapped in tunnel for 10 days seen alive for first time on camera;

North Korea says spy satellite successfully launched
Transcript
00:00 Good evening, I am William Theo and this is PTV News Now.
00:03 41 Indian workers trapped in a collapsed road tunnel for 10 days were seen alive on camera Tuesday for the very first time.
00:11 They look exhausted and anxious as rescuers attempted to create new passageways to free them.
00:17 Rescuers were able to push a six-inch diameter pipe through the debris inside the tunnel,
00:22 slipping a small camera attached to a flexible cable into the pipe.
00:28 It is now being used to film the trapped men where workers can be seen responding to their instructions.
00:34 Excavators have been removing tons of earth, concrete and rubble from the under construction tunnel in the northern Himalayan state of
00:41 Uttarakhand since November 12 after a portion of the tunnel collapsed.
00:47 Officials assured they will be rescued soon.
00:50 Meanwhile, North Korea successfully placed its first spy satellite into orbit last Tuesday,
00:57 and vowed to launch several more in a short span of time.
01:00 Such satellites could give the North an unprecedented ability to monitor the US and South Korean militaries.
01:08 BOA's Bill Gallo reports from Seoul.
01:10 North Korean leader Kim Jong-un oversaw the Tuesday launch. State media says the spy satellite successfully reached orbit.
01:19 Kim wants an array of spy satellites to monitor US and allied troops in the region.
01:25 But that will depend on the number and quality of images those satellites can produce.
01:30 Earlier this year, South Korea's military recovered parts of a North Korean satellite that crashed into the sea.
01:36 It said the device had no military utility, but that's debatable, says analyst Su Tien-jen.
01:42 I think that even a satellite with rudimentary capabilities could still be a first step or
01:52 modestly improve North Korea's situational awareness.
01:57 Though the Tuesday launch was expected, it prompted alerts and even brief evacuation warnings in southern Japan.
02:03 Prime Minister Fumio Kishida condemned the move.
02:06 Even if the purpose is to launch a satellite, using ballistic missile technology is a clear violation of the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.
02:16 It is also a very serious matter that greatly concerns the safety of our people.
02:21 South Korean President Yun Seok-kyo is on a state visit to Britain.
02:25 In response to the launch, Yun approved the partial suspension of an inter-Korean military agreement.
02:31 The 2018 agreement was signed during a period of rare diplomacy between the two Koreas.
02:36 That diplomacy was short-lived.
02:38 North Korea soon resumed its military provocations, including major weapons tests.
02:43 More launches are on the way, and from the South Korean side.
02:47 Later this month, South Korea plans to launch its first domestically built spy satellite using a SpaceX rocket.

02:57 At this juncture, let's turn to my colleague Eddie Carta in the Pine City for what's shaping up of late in the Cordilleras.
03:07 Eddie?
03:08 Good evening, Philippines.
03:10 Five people have been recovered from the Calibre Apalto after a fight between the 50th Infantry Battalion and a group of the
03:17 Comitee Larangang Guerrilla North Abra in Barangay Paqued, Malibcong, Abra on Monday.
03:23 It took 15 minutes to land, and the results of the recovery include one M14 rifle, two M16 rifles,
03:31 and one K3 light machine gun, two bandoliers, and a Philippine Army patrol,
03:37 and five members of the government's armed forces.
03:41 It's possible that the members of the KLG North Abra in the Calibre Apalto were evacuated,
03:49 or were taken to the ground.
03:51 The Philippine Army is likely to begin the recovery of the troops and continue to encamp the rebel forces of the group.
03:59 The Philippine Army is currently in custody, and the recovery of the troops is being carried out at their disposal.
04:06 In the last few days, the police discovered that Marijuana Bricks had stolen around 5 million pesos from the site of Barangay Dangoy, Lubuagan.
04:17 According to information from the Second Kalinga Provincial Mobile Force Company,
04:22 an unidentified male rider was seen on the Marijuana Bricks.
04:26 The man was found to be a member of the Tabuc City Police.
04:29 Another man was found to be a motorcycle rider who was riding on the road.
04:37 The National Road Police discovered a bag containing marijuana bricks,
04:44 which contained 49 pieces of marijuana bricks, worth 5.8 million pesos.
04:52 The police are still investigating the man who was the suspect.
