A late call up.
00:03
"Ladies and gentlemen, I didn't expect to be here today."
00:06
The Premier rescheduled her Queensland media club address and her political rival was all
00:12
too willing to sub in.
00:13
"I had a fairly average rugby league career.
00:16
I only ever got one intercept pass, but I'm honoured this one has come my way."
00:21
David Crisafulli used the speech to unveil the LNP's plan for the public service if
00:27
elected to government next year, including committing to no forced redundancies.
00:33
"Without an empowered and respected homegrown public service, we will never address the
00:39
big four crises gripping this state."
00:41
The plan's a counter-attack.
00:42
"Handel Newman promised public servants had nothing to fear from him."
00:50
As Labor continues to seize on Mr Crisafulli's history as a minister in the Newman government,
00:56
which axed 14,000 jobs in 2012, ultimately leading to its downfall.
01:03
"They said before the election that everyone would be safe and as soon as they were elected
01:07
they cut, they sacked and they sold."
01:09
"Why should public servants trust you again?"
01:13
"Because we have learnt and we have acknowledged and reflected the result."
01:18
250,000 people work full-time in the public service, with their salaries costing more
01:26
than $32 billion every year.
01:30
The LNP leader ruled out job cuts through voluntary redundancies and natural attrition.
01:36
Instead, he says he wants to grow the public sector further.
01:40
"When I look at the public service and I look at the services that are being delivered,
01:46
the answer is we actually need to attract more."
01:49
The LNP will release its costings for the plan before the state election.
