00:00 Today I'm gonna walk you through a detailed review
00:03 of the eight inch Alliance infotainment system,
00:05 plus a quick look at the Mitsubishi
00:06 remote control application.

00:15 Otherwise, let's get started.
00:17 This is part of the new Alliance setup.
00:19 So that is Mitsubishi, Renault, Nissan.
00:22 They're part of an alliance and as part of that,
00:24 they're reducing costs by making an infotainment system
00:27 that will roll out across all of their cars.
00:29 Great idea because it means you can pull your resources
00:32 and make a kick-ass infotainment system.
00:34 Unfortunately, they haven't done that here.
00:36 So I'll walk you through what we have on display.
00:38 The outgoing system was a seven inch unit.
00:40 This is now an eight inch unit.
00:42 Start off over here with multimedia.
00:44 This is where you can pick your audio source.
00:46 DAB, FM, AM are the main radio sources.
00:49 And then you can also select from iPod, old school,
00:53 Bluetooth audio, USB audio, USB video.
00:56 There's a HDMI port there as well.
00:58 And then you also have smartphone mirroring,
01:00 Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
01:02 What I don't like about the display here for the radio
01:06 is if you need to scroll through this list,
01:08 it's a little bit tricky to make heads or tails of it.
01:10 They've got all these random characters in there.
01:12 It doesn't appear to be in alphabetical order too.
01:15 So it kind of just all mixes up
01:17 and you need to go looking for the station that you want.
01:20 And it takes a while because none of it's in order
01:22 and it doesn't really make a great deal of sense.
01:25 If we then jump back to the home menu and go to info,
01:28 this is very basic here.
01:29 It gives you version information
01:30 about the infotainment system.
01:32 And there's also a help screen
01:33 if you need assistance connecting to the car
01:35 and also using the voice control.
01:36 So it just comes up here with instructions
01:39 on how to use the voice control system.
01:40 Now that's a problem because the voice control
01:43 doesn't allow you to just speak commands at the car.
01:45 So if I want to put in an address destination,
01:47 for example, I'll press this.
01:48 - Please speak after the beep.
01:50 - And what it does is it tells me what I can and can't say.
01:54 Instead of just interpreting my voice,
01:56 it says, no, no, you need to give me everything
01:58 in these certain orders.
02:00 That kind of makes it--
02:01 - Use the voice control.
02:02 - That kind of makes it counterintuitive
02:04 because it's not just an easy spoken system.
02:07 You can do a push and hold to then use
02:09 the voice recognition on your smartphone.
02:11 And that of course is a much smarter system
02:13 because it uses the cloud for your voice.
02:15 Speaking of which,
02:16 this is what the smartphone mirroring menu looks like.
02:18 This is Apple CarPlay.
02:19 It works with a cable.
02:21 It's not a wireless system.
02:22 And there's also Android Auto,
02:23 but we don't have an Android phone.
02:24 So I can't show you that.
02:26 Works fairly well.
02:27 It's just Apple CarPlay,
02:29 transitions between the screens okay.
02:31 Earlier on, this was quite laggy.
02:33 It seems to have sped up now over time,
02:36 which is interesting.
02:37 But it is good to see Apple CarPlay built in there
02:39 because it doesn't actually come with satellite navigation
02:41 unless you go for the top spec model.
02:43 So you're gonna have to use your smartphone mirroring
02:45 if you need navigation.
02:46 Okay, what about the phone menu?
02:47 I'll disconnect Apple CarPlay.
02:49 We hop into that.
02:50 This is traditional Bluetooth phone pairing.
02:53 So you can see your recent call history.
02:55 You can dial numbers, set favorites as well.
02:57 That all works perfectly normally.
02:59 And then if we jump into the settings menu,
03:00 this is where you'll find the rest of the settings
03:02 for the car, audio, DAB, display,
03:05 and your smartphone mirroring,
03:07 and then an ability to reset the voice control learning
03:09 because it is learning using your recognition
03:13 every time you hit that button.
03:15 Again, not a very good system, unfortunately.
03:17 The final thing I'm gonna show you here
03:18 is the Mitsubishi remote control application.
03:22 This is available on the Pajero Sport XCeed
03:24 and other high-end Mitsubishi products.
03:26 It allows you to remotely connect to the car
03:28 using the phone application.
03:30 This is just the demo screen
03:32 because this car doesn't have that feature,
03:34 but I wanted to show you what it looks like anyway.
03:36 So you can see here, you can open and close the boot
03:39 from this application.
03:41 You can also open and close the car from the application.
03:45 You can check the vehicle status
03:47 to see whether it's locked or unlocked.
03:50 You can remotely lock and unlock the car from here,
03:52 see what the windows are doing.
03:54 You can see previous fuel consumption history.
03:57 You can also find the car by flashing the headlights.
04:01 And finally, you have the ability,
04:02 if I go to the settings menu,
04:04 to configure things like how far the tailgate opens
04:07 when you press the button,
04:08 how long the reservation window is there
04:10 for it to be able to open and close remotely,
04:12 and then further information about the device
04:14 and finding your car as well on a map.
04:17 So it is an okay app.
04:18 It will improve over time,
04:20 and it's good to see Mitsubishi getting with the program here
04:22 and delivering a bit more technology in their cars.
