00:00 G'day, I'm Paul. Audi has recently upgraded the infotainment system in a lot of its cars. Today
00:04 I'm going to take you through a detailed review of MMI, which is Audi's infotainment system, plus the secondary screen that sits beneath it,
00:11 virtual cockpit and also head-up display, so you can see what all the features are like. Now,
00:16 if you haven't seen the other videos on our channel,
00:18 make sure you have a look at our car reviews, some of our drag races and other infotainment reviews as well.
00:23 But let's get stuck into this.
00:25 Up the top here, we have a 10.1 inch display.
00:28 It looks really nice and high resolution, but it has a special feature and that is haptic feedback.
00:33 So as you push your finger onto these, it lights up to give you an idea of the context of those menus.
00:39 But then what you can do is push a little harder,
00:41 you get a click and then you feel it on the end of your finger so that you know that you've hit that button
00:47 successfully. So, really like the way that's set up. I'll take you through each of these menus.
00:51 So if we jump into radio, you have AM, FM, DAB plus digital radio, plus the ability to stream online radio stations as well.
00:58 When you have a mobile paired device. Now,
01:01 you can use your telephone as the mobile device through Wi-Fi or in the glove box here,
01:06 you can put an extra SIM card in as well. The car also has its own SIM card inside for connected services. Over in the media
01:12 menu, this is where you'll find your Bluetooth devices plus also USB connected devices or any other
01:18 wirelessly connected devices to the car. Telephone, same story.
01:21 You can either go down the path of smartphone mirroring or Bluetooth connectivity. Now, keep in mind with smartphone mirroring,
01:27 you won't need one of these anymore because it is wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
01:31 I'll show you what that looks like. It is a really impressive system.
01:34 It is incredibly high resolution and look how quickly it jumps through those menus.
01:39 That is very, very impressive, that integration. What about navigation? I like the way that Audi has set this up.
01:46 So it's a very fast screen,
01:47 but you can see here that you have satellite overlays on the screen and then if you do need to put
01:52 navigation destinations in, you can either use the voice recognition system or type them in manually.
01:57 So let's try Melbourne Airport, which is my go-to. You can use the screen down here as a
02:01 typing pad, so I'll put in an M there.
02:04 Or you can simply bring up the keyboard and type the rest in. So it's like your own mini computer.
02:10 So let's give that a shot.
02:12 I'm sure that in 20 years time, we'll look back at this and laugh, but for the moment, it's pretty cool.
02:17 There you go. That's come up really nice and quickly.
02:19 So very impressive in-built navigation or you can just use your smartphone mirroring. Shortcut there for Apple CarPlay.
02:25 Then you have your car settings.
02:27 So this is where you can change everything to do with the car, everything from your seats to the lights and how far ahead they're going.
02:33 Your suspension settings, the emergency assist controls if you're going to a racetrack or something, you can actually reduce
02:38 any assistance on the car or you can shortcut straight to that menu by pushing here and then change the level of assistance you have.
02:45 So it doesn't go off if there's other cars and stuff around you. There is a help menu.
02:49 This is where you'll find some usage tips and also the in-built manual.
02:52 So let's have a look here. Basic information will tell you how to connect your phone and all the other stuff that you'll eventually learn how
02:58 to do yourself. Swipe across, you then have user settings.
03:02 So if you have several people that drive the car, you can set up different user profiles and it will remember everything there.
03:06 You can then also assign them to keys as well as required. You have messages built into the car, also weather.
03:12 This is all via those wireless services.
03:14 And then if you swipe down from the top there, you have shortcuts for audio settings, Wi-Fi and then car profiles as well.
03:21 So beneath the 10.1-inch screen, you also have a secondary 8.6-inch screen.
03:26 This also has haptic feedback and features some of your most commonly accessed functions.
03:31 So down the bottom, you'll see heated seats, the climate controls, which you can activate after switching off.
03:36 There's a secondary menu that then brings up another context up the top for your fragrance, the ionizer.
03:42 So the fragrance will pump out nice smells into the cabin.
03:45 The ionizer will ionize the air in the cabin.
03:47 And then you can also set custom functions up the top if you do want anything else to appear in that top screen.
03:54 Now moving on to virtual cockpit, that is the digital display ahead of the driver.
03:58 This stuff has advanced so much since it was first launched. It now has super fast and super sharp graphics.
04:04 So this is your default display. You can then range through the different items. We have radio,
04:09 telephone and then navigation. What you can then do is adjust the view. So you get supersized navigation,
04:15 you get telephone with creepy images of your friends, you get radio display there and then trip computer as well.
04:22 But what you can also do is change the feel of this by going into S performance mode.
04:27 Have a look at that. You just get this space-age looking display and if I go back to navigation,
04:34 how cool is that? So you're just getting all sorts of really interesting display options.
04:38 And as you can see, everything is moving through very quickly. So that processor has some absolute grunt.
04:43 Finally, you've also got a head-up display. It's pretty basic.
04:46 It shows you your speed, navigation information and also any lane keeping assist or adaptive cruise control details.
04:52 So there you go. That is a really comprehensive in-car infotainment system. Let me know in the comments below,
04:57 do you reckon this is one of the best in the segment or do you think iDrive or MBUX is better?
