Meet the traders inside Abingdon Street Market

Reporter, Lucinda Herbert, went for a walk around inside the newly regenerated Abingdon Street Market to meet some of the traders.

00:00 We've got fresh fruit and veg, quite a range of vegan produce, we've got vegan cheeses,

00:20 some gluten free products, dried flowers, soaps, bath bombs, we've kind of got a bit

00:25 of everything really.

00:26 As somebody who was born and raised in the area and never really felt like there was

00:33 a communal space to go to, I find myself coming to Aberdeen Street Market all the time for

00:38 food, to meet up with friends and now with a retail space as well, I think it's a really

00:43 really positive thing for the town, absolutely.

00:53 We originated in Cornwall, in Newquay, so we brought a bit of that surf life to Blackpool,

01:00 obviously we're not a surf town but we do have a beach so we're kind of making the most

01:04 of it.

01:05 Yeah, we try to promote clean seas, we're trying to bring brands like that in so people

01:11 are more aware of the ocean.

01:14 Our t-shirts are all £10 and things range to £30 but that's for hoodies so yeah it's

01:24 all quite affordable.

01:28 We were sharing pictures of our own record collection, sharing a bit of knowledge on

01:32 the albums, each title, if it was a limited release, why it was limited, just any information,

01:39 it's just a passion really, it's a passion project, yeah, that's how it started.

01:45 And then very naturally progressed into events and promotions and then the rest is history,

01:53 it just kind of happened very naturally I guess.

01:55 It started through an Instagram account is the short answer.

01:59 We've got plans to do other stuff down the road, we want to have in-store acoustic performances,

02:04 we want to do in-store sign-ins, late night shopping which we'll do towards Christmas,

02:09 we want to support local creatives so we sell stuff through Boogie Prince which is a graphic

02:16 designer in the nearby area.

02:17 I think those who are involved in the development side of it, so from LBL to Little Blackpool

02:24 Leisure to the investors to the individuals themselves that work here, I think it's bringing

02:31 that Manchester, Northern Quarter vibe dead into the town centre of Blackpool.

02:37 It's bringing people closer together, people are being able to meet, there's no other word

02:43 like it, it's just incredible right now.

02:46 It's very positive to be a part of it, so it's great, yeah, it's a good space.

02:56 We were selling all our gifts and crystals from our dining room and then when we found

03:00 out about the market we thought, right, this sounds fantastic, we've got the opportunity

03:05 to sell a bit more in the right location and be part of a new retail community in the heart

03:12 of Blackpool.

03:13 The market looks fabulous and all the traders that I've met and all the people to do with

03:19 the market have all been fantastic, there's a proper community here and going forward

03:25 I think it's going to be marvellous, not only for the market but for Blackpool and the town

03:30 centre.

03:31 Yeah, I've got a passion for Blackpool, love being part of this town centre, love being

03:33 part of the regeneration, really excited about all this.

03:37 So what are your thoughts on having the street market so far?

03:41 Oh I love it, I love the vibe of the place, I think Blackpool's needed a marketplace that's

03:47 undercover with the drinking and the social vibe of it, I think it's been needed for a

03:51 very long time and yes I love the feel of it down here, it's very arty, it's very modern,

03:56 very different and proud to be a part of it.
