00:00 "If we cannot have conversations about difficult things, if the conversations themselves are
00:07 now the difficult things, then what hope do we have of fixing the difficult things?"
00:12 The first episode of Trevor Noah's new podcast just dropped, and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson
00:16 is his first guest.
00:17 "Think about how far that was.
00:19 Think about how far you were from me in South Africa.
00:22 Think about how far I was from you in the United States.
00:25 And yet, in that moment, we were connected."
00:28 The Spotify podcast What Now with Trevor Noah will feature all different types of guests,
00:32 some considerably more famous than others.
00:34 Noah tells The Hollywood Reporter he's as interested in booking scientists and CEOs
00:39 as he is politicians, athletes, and A-list stars, so long as they're interesting and
00:43 timely.
00:44 When Noah does have an A-list star on the show, he insists he won't just be focused
00:47 on their next big project.
00:49 Instead, he sees his new platform as a space where he can speak to his subjects for an
00:52 extended period and really get to know them.
00:55 He tells THR of his podcast guests, "Hopefully you can get a deeper understanding of how
00:59 they see the world, and maybe even talk about how they feel about how the world sees them."
01:04 Noah's interview with Johnson is wide-ranging, covering everything from the actor's troubled
01:08 youth and lifelong struggles with depression, to him trying to process and make sense of
01:24 the blowback to him launching his fund following the Maui fires.
01:36 While speaking with THR, Noah also reflected on his time hosting The Daily Show.
01:40 He said, "The thing I miss most is easily the team and the people I worked with every
01:44 day.
01:45 The thing I miss the least is not having the time to process how I feel about an issue
01:48 and giving it time to develop.
01:50 From the very beginning, I never felt like it's necessary for us to necessarily engage
01:54 immediately on every single topic as it is happening before we know everything."
