00:00 Manchester's iconic Christmas markets are returning for 2023 on Friday the 10th of November
00:06 and will be open all festive season with some stalls serving food and drink until the 31st
00:12 of December.
00:13 It is the market's 25th year and as in previous years, they will be taking over locations
00:18 across the city centre, including Piccadilly Gardens, Market Street, Cathedral Gardens
00:24 and more.
00:25 There will be 225 market stalls and each location will be unique in terms of what's on offer,
00:31 with Piccadilly Gardens, also known as Winter Gardens for the festive season, being the
00:36 main hub with its Scandi-style teepee complete with log fire and entertainment every night.
00:42 The markets were first set up 25 years ago in 1998 in St Anne's Square and Exchange Street
00:49 and this year the area will be the place to be for stalls such as the Manchester Shop,
00:53 Continental Cheeses, Alien Sculptures and delicious food including bratwurst and salt
00:59 and pepper chicken.
01:00 For 2023, Market Street will be home to 40 stalls, many of which will be selling a variety
01:06 of different crafts and gifts, which are perfect for last minute ideas for Christmas.
01:11 You'll find tweed hats, spiced rum, Christmas decorations, jewellery and more and even a
01:17 stall selling Manchester coconut macaroons, fresh from the oven.
01:21 King Street will be serving up French soap, personalised tree decorations, handmade wooden
01:26 furniture and local rum made by the Salford Rum Company.
01:29 The traders in New Cathedral Street will be selling high-end items such as handmade candles,
01:35 ceramics, local spirits and thoughtful keepsakes.
01:38 One of the larger sites for the Christmas markets is Exchange Square, where you can
01:43 find Mancunian mulled wine made on site and visit one of the most popular stalls of recent
01:48 years, Porky Pig, which is returning with its famous Yorkshire Pudding wrap.
01:53 Market stalls in the Corn Exchange will be selling more unique gifts including handmade
01:57 pies and jewellery, Christmas decorations made from recycled wood, artisan chocolates
02:03 and more.
02:04 The final area of the markets is Cathedral Gardens, where food and drinks such as crepes,
02:09 gourmet hot dogs and hot chocolates will continue being served all the way up to the 31st of
02:15 December.
02:17 This is also where you will find the Skate Manchester Ice Rink for some extra festive
02:21 activities this Christmas season.
02:23 If you're keen to explore our famous Christmas markets this year, all the stalls will be
02:27 open daily until the 21st of December, with food and drink stalls closing at 9pm.
02:34 The markets are highly anticipated every year and some people in Manchester are excited
02:39 about the atmosphere they bring for the festive season.
02:42 "So the Christmas market in Manchester I think is a great thing.
02:45 We will definitely pay a visit to the city to see it all.
02:48 It just adds to the festive spirit of the whole place and it looks so good and they
02:53 do it really well so I think it's great."
02:55 "I work on Cross Street so I see the markets every year and yes I always come and I've
02:59 got my granddaughter who's so excited about seeing the markets.
03:03 So she likes to have all the hot chocolate and the hot dogs as well."
