Motor Trend Executive Editor Matt Stone tours the 2007 Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder...
Transcript
00:00 There's a lot going on here at the Los Angeles Auto Show, but certainly one of the stars
00:16 of today's media day is the new Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder.
00:21 This is a 2007 model.
00:23 Now the Gallardo has already become Lamborghini's best selling car, but that was only in coupe
00:28 form.
00:29 Now they have a Spyder, a convertible.
00:32 This is very similar mechanically and structurally to the coupe, but there's a lot of changes
00:37 necessary in order to make it into a convertible.
00:39 Of course they've removed the roof and have redone all of the body work structure back
00:44 here to be able to neatly hide a convertible top.
00:47 As you can see, it's fully covered in the open position.
00:50 You know, there's no Tonic cover or anything to put here.
00:54 Other mechanical enhancements in order to make the car into a convertible is side sill
00:58 reinforcements and some structural work to make sure that the car is torsionally stiff
01:03 and handles in a precision fashion.
01:06 The top is power, goes up and down in about 20 seconds.
01:10 No question this is as sporty as a car like this could get, and we believe it'll be a
01:14 serious sales success for Lamborghini.
01:18 Now along with the convertible version, there are some other enhancements that go with it.
01:22 The gear ratios have been revised.
01:24 They've been tightened up a little bit to allow a little better performance, a little
01:28 closer gear spacing.
01:30 It doesn't really affect the top speed any, but through the gears you get more punch,
01:35 especially through second, third, and fourth.
01:37 In addition, the engine, a five liter V10 has been revised to give 512 horsepower in
01:45 American spec form.
01:47 This car will be available this summer as a 2007 model, and I imagine the line at the
01:53 Lamborghini dealership will be long.
01:56 From the Los Angeles Auto Show, I'm Matt Stone, Motor Trend Executive Editor.
