00:00 Land Rover's present generation Range Rover was co-engineered with BMW and since its introduction

00:07 for 2003, it's been powered by a BMW V8. For 2006, current parent Ford has given the top

00:18 of the line Range Rover significant updates. Truck Trend's Mark Williams has more.

00:24 The basic changes to the new Range Rover, a lot of them are actually under the skin

00:29 or in the interior so you don't see them right off the bat. And now we've got kind of a mid-model

00:34 change that the Range Rover is going through right now that's fairly significant. It's

00:39 got a new engine and transmission combination. It's actually a Jaguar engine now and not

00:43 a BMW engine and transmission. The improvements are quite a leap ahead of where it was before.

00:49 For the Range Rover HSE, the new normally aspirated 4.4 liter aluminum V8 makes 305

00:55 horsepower up from 282 in the previous engine. For the customer who believes more is better,

01:02 there's an even more powerful 4.2 liter. Of course the biggest news for this Range Rover

01:07 is that it's being offered with a supercharger with actually 400 horsepower which is an amazing

01:14 feat for something that typically has been a big and lumbering four-wheel drive sport

01:20 utility. For those interested in being able to tell the difference between the naturally

01:23 aspirated HSE and the supercharged model, there are some specific things that you can

01:29 look out for. There's a different grille that meshing is also matched with some of the side

01:35 vent on the supercharged model. There's one small badge on the rear tailgate that actually

01:41 does say supercharged. The tail lights themselves are more of a clear finish on the supercharged.

01:48 It's a different wheel, Brembo calipers on the front and a final touch are the dual chrome

01:54 pipes out the back end that are only offered on the supercharged model. Pricing for these

01:59 two Range Rovers remains at the top of the market with the HSE model stickering at about

02:04 $75,000 and the supercharged model at about $90,000. In this price range there's not a

02:11 lot of competition for the Range Rover supercharged model. Porsche Cayenne Turbo, BMW X5 4.8,

02:20 and maybe the Mercedes G55, $90,000. The air's pretty thin up here.
