Motor Trends Scott Evans makes it to Colorado in the 2011 Ford Fiesta on his way to Pikes Peak.

00:10 Now the Fiesta is very easy to drive.

00:21 Our car is a five speed manual transmission model and

00:24 has a long clutch throw with a smooth throttle.

00:27 So it's very nice to drive around town.

00:29 On the other hand, the shifter throw is a bit long.

00:33 Now the brakes are a little bit grabby at first, but

00:35 they just take some getting used to and

00:36 they're very solid out on the road.

00:38 The steering can feel a little bit light around town at low

00:41 speed, but it does make it nice in parking lots.

00:44 Get out on the open road though, and it firms up nicely

00:47 and gives you a lot of feedback through the wheel.

01:12 We're 960 miles into our great Fiesta road trip.

01:15 And over the last 17 hours behind the wheel,

01:17 we've averaged about 31 miles per gallon.

01:20 That's pretty good for a small car.

01:21 But what's more impressive is that it's done that despite all

01:24 that we've put it through.

01:25 You see the entire way here, we've been working this car hard.

01:28 We've been climbing up out of California,

01:30 over the high deserts and into the Rockies.

01:33 Today alone, we've been varying anywhere from 4,000 to 8,000 feet

01:36 in elevation, and over the entire trip, the temperature's been

01:39 anywhere from 90 to over 110 degrees Fahrenheit.

01:42 So we've been running the air conditioner the entire time as well.

01:44 And we've got two staff members and all our gear loaded in the back.

01:47 So this little engine's working hard, and you can feel it coming up these

01:50 mountains that doesn't quite have as much power as you might like.

01:54 But despite all that, it's still pulling off very good highway fuel economy.

01:59 Now we got about 200 miles to go to Pike's Peak, so

02:01 we're gonna get back on the road.
