Moment drunk driver finds out he killed a mum-of-two

  • last year
Video shows the moment when a drink and drug-fuelled driver heard he’d killed his passenger after leaving the mum-of-two for dead to cover his tracks.

‘Selfish’ Ashley Dean, 40, was heard asking police “Is she alive?” after the horror crash where “bubbly” Lisa Birtwistle, 32, tragically lost her life.

The dad had spent six hours boozing at a nearby pub before getting behind the wheel of his white Vauxhall Vivaro van on March 23 last year.

And as he drove through Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancs., at 10.15pm, he failed to make a left-hand bend and hit a kerbstone before wedging the van against a lamppost.

Police investigators later estimated that Dean had been travelling between 47mph and 57mph before the smash on Blackpool Road, which has a 30mph speed limit.
