08:44 They are trying to come into the kingdom
09:01 and develop product for the kingdom
09:03 and hire people in the local.
09:04 So you can see the distribution there.
09:06 This is only in the first few months.

10:20 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
10:23 So we're in the middle of doing this.
10:36 But I can give you an idea of what we're doing.
10:38 So we have this year's transition.
10:41 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
10:45 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
10:48 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]

11:21 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
11:30 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
11:38 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
11:41 We wanted the funding for it to be competitive.

14:02 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
14:19 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
14:22 The volume, I'm not the best person.
14:34 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
14:38 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
14:41 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
15:00 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
15:03 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
15:06 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
15:09 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
15:38 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
15:41 We don't really have a department.
16:01 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
16:04 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
16:07 We also have a staff, not only at the university,
16:23 but through that, it's a big company,
16:25 which is run by the university,
16:27 and they're quite a number of staff
16:30 that are nurtured through cows in e-sports.
16:33 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
16:36 Yeah, yeah, sure.
16:50 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
16:53 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
16:57 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
17:01 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
17:04 I see that totally.
17:29 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
17:32 That's an excellent question.
17:58 You know, we started 15 years ago with nothing.
18:01 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
18:05 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
18:09 The fact that it's not about the cost,
18:11 it's about the money that they get for the work.
18:13 It's true.
18:15 You know, the robot space,
18:17 it's not just about the equipment or the equipment or many things,
18:22 it's important to have devices like a computer,
18:27 but also a team, a studio,
18:31 we need to be able to do all of this.
18:34 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
18:37 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
18:40 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
18:43 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
18:47 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
18:51 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
19:19 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
19:22 Yeah, I do.
19:29 That one I do.
19:30 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
19:34 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
19:37 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
19:41 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
19:44 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
20:12 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
20:15 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
20:18 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
20:43 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
20:46 Yeah, let me talk about faculty.
20:54 That's what you mean by academic staff.
20:56 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
21:00 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
21:03 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
21:06 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
21:09 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
21:13 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
21:16 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
21:19 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
21:46 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
21:49 Well, there are two aspects.
22:13 I want to mention two aspects in one case.
22:15 The first is cyber security.
22:17 We have a research center for cyber security and resilience.
22:21 So when someone is attacked, we can do resilience.
22:26 That's one of the main things.
22:28 We have a number of faculty members in the organization
22:31 that are working on that.
22:32 Then the other aspect is that we are an organization
22:35 that is able to prepare for cyber attacks.
22:38 We have a software that we have developed as a sign-in
22:42 for our employees.
22:43 And that's the head of the information security department.
22:46 Head of the information security department.
22:48 But we now have the head of the information security department.
22:51 So we have policies now, like the continuous change
22:54 of passwords, and all the things that are related to outside attacks.
22:58 And we have a good record.
23:00 We are not completely sure about the hack.
23:04 But our record is pretty good so far.
23:06 Our record so far is pretty good.
23:08 So how much is the investment in cyber security today, Mr. Tony?
23:13 Oh, that's difficult to say.
23:16 For example, the center itself.
23:18 It's difficult to say.
23:19 The center itself is a number that is difficult for me to say.
23:22 But it's more than a million dollars a year,
23:25 or a million and a half dollars.
23:27 On the other hand, the faculty members have what is known
23:30 as the research fund.
23:32 So there's another 500,000 or 700,000 dollars
23:37 that we have every year.
23:39 So it's a research fund for each faculty member.
23:42 And also for the infrastructure and the organization,
23:45 we have a fixed budget.
23:47 And the information security department budget is quite large.
23:50 It's more than $100 million a year.
23:53 And so is the development of the programs.
23:55 And so is the information security.
23:57 So I don't know the exact number.
24:00 We take this seriously in the field of research
24:03 and the protection of the infrastructure.
24:06 Finally, I would like to ask how many years
24:11 of research are available for application
24:15 or for turning it into annual projects, Mr. Tony?
24:20 Oh, there are different kinds of what they call
24:23 technology readiness level.
24:26 And there are different levels of what they call technology readiness.
24:29 And there are a lot of them that are available for application.
24:32 I guess over a thousand papers a year,
24:34 you know, come up to us.
24:37 Some of the first-time research,
24:40 all that potential,
24:43 some of them are more for rare,
24:45 and some of them are more for regular application.
24:49 But we like to keep the numbers changing every year.
24:52 But we're looking for a good distribution between these researches.
24:56 So that our plan for the re-construction
24:59 is to shift more of the direction of this project to the right.
25:02 Which is the direction of the projects that are easier to implement directly.
25:06 But that's not possible without the main researches.
25:12 We thank you, Professor Tony Chan,
25:15 President of the King Abdullah Society of Science and Technology, KAUST.
25:18 You were with us tonight.
25:21 Thank you for all of these details.
25:24 Thank you.
25:26 This was our tour.
25:27 You've been watching the latest developments
25:30 that KAUST Saudi University is witnessing.
25:32 We'll see you again next week
25:35 with a new issue from the Kingdom.
25:37 Thank you very much.
25:38 Goodbye.
