An update on an injury to the LUFC forward.
Transcript
00:00 Looking at Joe Gelhart, the young forward, just a bit of an injury update on him.
00:05 How much of a setback for him will that be and what does the future hold for him as well?
00:10 It feels like a real crossroads at the moment for Joe Gelhart.
00:13 Obviously, Leeds aren't short of attacking options and predominantly the main reason for that has been the emergency, if you like, of Giorgino Routier.
00:21 How he's done in his first, since the summer, to drop down a division, now he's settled in.
00:26 And also, Joel Perrault coming in and you've got the situation now where Joe Gelhart's not even making matchday squads.
00:31 I mean, he's missed his last three, not even made the matchday squad.
00:35 I think it's six minutes in his last 11 games, in Leeds' last 11 games before his injury.
00:39 And you were sort of starting to wonder, well, what's going to happen here?
00:41 You know, is he a sort of player that could go out on loan in January?
00:44 And then, you know, he's not even making the 21s at the moment because he's probably somewhere between the two sort of camps, if you like.
00:50 But yeah, obviously, at the moment, we won't be seeing him, certainly for the next two weeks, after a hand fracture that he suffered.
00:55 How long he's out for depends basically on whether that needs surgery.
00:59 But obviously, you know, he's going to need time to come back as well.
01:01 So for the time being, he's out injured. But like I say, I mean, he's a very, very good player.
01:06 There's no doubt about it. I mean, we all saw like the way that he burst onto the scene when he first came into the team under Marcelo Bielsa.
01:11 I mean, every time he was coming on, he was making a huge impact.
01:14 I think I'm a huge fan of his. I think he's a great, great young player.
01:17 And, you know, obviously still young at 21 years of age.
01:21 But you've got to say, like, when he has had chances lately and, you know, stuff like League Cup games and whatnot,
01:25 he hasn't really grasped it as much as you probably would have hoped.
01:27 So, I mean, people can say, well, he hasn't been getting the chance and I get that he hasn't in League games,
01:31 but that's because, you know, obviously they've got other attacking options now.
01:34 Look at the form of Routier, etc. I mean, Bamford's obviously there as well now.
01:39 And, you know, just there's a lot of obstacles in his way.
01:41 So I suppose he's got to, you know, return from this injury.
01:43 He's got to keep his head down, really impress in training and then just hopefully, you know, get another chance at some point and then really take it.
01:48 But it does feel like a big Crossroads moment at the moment for Joe Gelhart.
01:52 And that is a setback, but hopefully one he can come back from quickly and, you know,
01:56 a player that Leeds need to get the best out of, definitely.
01:58 And he needs to show us what he's capable of, really.
