00:00 Hi and welcome back to another episode of Screenbabel Weekend Watch.
00:03 I'm your host Stephen, National Wales Digital Trends Writer,
00:06 and I'll be walking you through what's on TV and streaming and cinemas this weekend and beyond.
00:12 So to kick things off, on Friday we have three new films coming out.
00:16 We have Five Nights at Freddy's, the video game adaptation film,
00:20 hopefully better than most video game adaptations,
00:23 follows a troubled security guard who's working at Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria,
00:29 and on his first night on the job he realises that there's some sort of animatronic mascot who's out to get him.
00:37 It's a sort of dark comedy horror, I guess you would describe it as, in time for Halloween.
00:45 Then on Netflix we have another horror film coming out, Sister Death.
00:49 This is a Spanish language film about Narcissa, a novice nun with some supernatural powers
00:55 who joins a school for young girls in a former convent and realises that the school itself
01:02 has some strange paranormal goings on and is causing some terror for the students.
01:10 Then again on Netflix we have Pain Hustlers, the new Emily Blunt film.
01:14 You'll know Emily Blunt from various movies, Edge of Tomorrow,
01:20 and of course her recent apology for her "fatphobic" comments on the Jonathan Ross show.
01:26 She plays Lisa who dreams of a better life for her and her daughter,
01:30 gets a job at a bankruptcy pharmacy and then catapults the company into success
01:35 but at the same time finds herself in the middle of a criminal conspiracy.
01:39 Then on Saturday we have a few new releases.
01:42 Velo Travelers is out, as I discussed on the main podcast, definitely give that a watch or a listen if you haven't already.
01:49 It's a Paramount+ series about two gay men during the McCarthy era,
01:53 investigations into communism and deviancy in the US in the 50s
02:00 and also takes place 30 years later in the 1980s during the AIDS epidemic as well.
02:06 It's a very good romantic historical drama thriller,
02:10 definitely worth your time if you do have Paramount+ or are thinking of getting it.
02:15 The first episode will launch on Saturday 28th October
02:19 and then there'll be seven more episodes releasing weekly on Saturdays.
02:24 Again on Saturday we have Survivor starting on BBC1 at 8.25pm
02:29 with another episode on Sunday at 8pm.
02:31 There'll be 16 episodes in total.
02:35 The series is hosted by Joel Domet who welcomes 18 castaways to the Dominican Republic
02:40 where they'll compete in a physical and psychological competition.
02:46 They'll be divided into two tribes and will live on separate beaches
02:49 where they'll become self-sufficient and deal with the daily challenges that the environment throws at them.
02:58 Again on Saturday on Channel 4 we have Britain's Human Zoos.
03:02 This is a one-off documentary special and quite a grim one by the sounds of things.
03:07 It explores how African and Asian people were taken from their homeland,
03:14 transported to the UK and used as human entertainment in essentially human zoos.
03:23 So very nasty stuff.
03:25 Then on Sunday on BBC1 we have Season 2 of Time.
03:29 This is the long-awaited follow-up to the Stephen Graham/Sean Bean series,
03:32 though they won't be in it.
03:33 This time the action focuses on an all-women's prison.
03:40 Stars Jodie Whittaker, Tamara Lawrence and Bella Ramsey as three new prisoners
03:44 who enter this new violent world but discover that they can find their own sense of community
03:50 and understanding within a very dark place.
03:54 The last thing I wanted to mention is the Guild of the Aged Season 2
03:57 which comes to Sky Atlantic on Monday 30th October at 3am
04:01 but will be repeated at the more sociable hour of 9pm on Monday evening.
04:06 It follows the economic changes that led to huge class structures and rivalries
04:12 and differences between old and new money during the Guild of the Aged.
04:17 There's eight episodes in the new season and they will be released at the same time
04:21 on Sky Atlantic Weekly with the 3am original airing and the 9pm repeat.
04:26 That's all from me, thanks very much for listening.
04:29 Join me again next week for more weekend watch recommendations.
04:32 Thank you very much.
04:34 [laughs]
04:36 [music]
04:38 (upbeat music)
