00:16 I've been making music all my life.
00:18 And today we're here in the studio with Specsavers
00:21 to talk about issues to do with people having hearing loss.
00:24 Hearing loss feels like a scary subject,
00:26 but mishearing things is so common and everyday.
00:30 For example, millions of people
00:31 mishear famous song lyrics all the time.
00:34 So that's why I'm teaming up with Specsavers
00:36 to make a misheard version of my hit,
00:39 Never Gonna Give You Up.
00:41 ♪ And I'm gonna give you up ♪
00:43 ♪ And I'm gonna let you down ♪
00:45 ♪ And I'm gonna run around with dessert spoons ♪
00:49 - Dessert spoons, who would have thought it?
00:51 (upbeat music)
00:55 - How did you find recording that?
00:57 - To find out that people have misheard the words
00:59 and then to actually go and re-sing it
01:01 and sing different words to it
01:03 was pretty weird to be honest.
01:04 But I do it myself.
01:05 I've been in the car and I've been singing along
01:08 to something and someone said,
01:09 "You do realize that's not me?"
01:10 - Yeah. (laughing)
01:12 ♪ You know the rules ♪
01:14 ♪ And so do I ♪
01:16 ♪ I've broken mittens while I'm thinking ♪
01:19 - A broken mitten.
01:21 - Broken mittens, they're very important.
01:22 - A broken mitten.
01:23 - I had a hearing test recently
01:25 and pretty much to my surprise,
01:28 it turns out that I have lost some of the hearing.
01:30 So how do you think that's possible
01:32 that I've gone through daily life
01:34 and not realized that I actually need hearing aids?
01:36 - It can take anyone up to 10 years on average
01:39 to realize that they have a hearing loss.
01:40 - Wow, okay.
01:41 - However, it could be their friends and family
01:42 that have realized it before that.
01:44 And they've mentioned, you know,
01:46 you're turning the TV up,
01:47 you're asking me to repeat myself, things like that.
01:50 ♪ I've broken mittens while I'm thinking of ♪
01:54 ♪ You wouldn't get this from any other guy ♪
01:57 - It's not just about being around loud music.
02:00 I think it's also an age thing as well.
02:01 My hearing has started to go a little bit.
02:03 I think a lot of people who probably need it,
02:06 their hearing checked,
02:07 are still shying away from it for the wrong reasons.
02:09 At some point you have to arrest that
02:11 and sort of say, "Right, let's look at this and say,
02:13 you know, can I be helped in some way
02:15 to live a more full life?"
