Interview with Harrogate Town manager Simon Weaver ahead of Saturday's clash at home to League Two rivals, Stockport County
Transcript
00:00 Well, yeah, I mean, we're disappointed first and foremost with the performance the other
00:09 night, losing any game is disappointing, but we made 10 changes to the line-up, gave other
00:14 people an opportunity ahead of a big game on Saturday, which we're now turning our attention
00:20 to.
00:21 It should be a big turnout and if it's weather like this, it should be great.
00:25 Yeah, and Stockport as well, you know, one of the form teams in the league.
00:28 So how do you go about stopping that, especially with the defensive record we do have in league
00:32 football?
00:33 Well, obviously, we've got to have respect for them because they're a fantastic team,
00:38 scoring goals and playing ever so well.
00:43 But we've just got to concentrate on ourselves primarily and making sure that we have a continuation
00:48 of consistency in the way we do things and fight the fight, you know, to be sure to be
00:52 a good atmosphere and I believe we can do well.
00:55 Yeah, and of course, you know, speaking of that defensive record, you mentioned that
00:59 post-match on Tuesday, but how important is that for the players on the pitch?
01:02 You know, your players are in forward positions, knowing that they've got that solid base behind
01:06 them.
01:07 Do you think they take maybe more risk in trying to make more things happen in attack
01:10 because they have got that solid base behind them?
01:13 Well, of course, I mean, they've got that freedom of expression, you know, all the time
01:18 in terms of the creativity in the final third, just go and play, go where you want and go
01:23 and do it without fear of failure.
01:26 So they've got to be allowed to have that freedom, but behind that, yeah, we have been
01:29 a lot more solid.
01:30 Take Tuesday night out of it, you know, when a lot of people haven't played many minutes
01:36 of football, I think we've been very solid over the last month and a half.
01:40 Yeah, and obviously, you know, you say that about Tuesday night, but a chance to play
01:43 at home again on Saturday.
01:44 So how much of your message to the players has been about bouncing back and putting on
01:49 a performance for the supporters as well?
01:50 Well, they're all professional footballers out here, you know, training and playing on
01:54 Saturday.
01:55 So it's all our jobs to learn from each performance, good or bad, and move on quickly.
02:00 And we have to press the reset button, just as we do the same thing anyway after a win,
02:06 which last Saturday was a fantastic win away from home.
02:09 Great on and off the ball, but we have to obviously keep doing it, keep doing the jobs
02:14 right and hopefully bring more points up.
02:17 Yeah.
02:17 Yeah.
