At a press briefing in Ecuador, NYC Mayor Eric Adams was asked about the border wall and federal deportation policies.

00:04 Mexico yesterday?

00:05 And also just trying to get your reaction to the border wall being built out in Texas.

00:12 Do you feel like this will help maybe stem the flow a little bit?

00:17 Thank you.

00:18 No, we did not meet with the White House delegation that came down a few days ago.

00:28 We did meet with high ranking officials in Mexico.

00:33 And I want to again thank them for their receptivity to sharing their ideas.

00:38 And we shared ours of dealing specifically with the wall and the proposal that's coming

00:43 from the national government.

00:46 There's not going to be a one item solution.

00:51 There's going to be a series of things that are going to be needed to really stabilize

00:56 the situation.

00:57 And for Americans, the stabilization comes with managing the border.

01:04 And I'm aware that many experts are stating that if you don't have a manageable way of

01:12 entry that people take more dangerous pathways.

01:15 So I believe the federal government is taking all that into consideration as they're making

01:22 the decision.

01:23 We're going to continue to communicate with the federal government to determine what the

01:28 plans and steps forward are to not only the officially rolled out the wall, but also what

01:35 we're doing with the decompression strategy.

02:28 the law requires us to do in New York City, the uniqueness of our city, we're going to

02:34 We're going to comply with whatever laws our city has in place.

02:38 As everyone knows, I don't break laws, I follow laws, and we're going to make sure whatever

02:42 the law is, that's what we want to follow.

03:18 If you're helping with deportations, which the federal government's trying to do, would

03:23 that in some way impact the city's status as a sanctuary city?

03:28 Our city is very clear on what the law is around coordinating with ICE, and those are

03:39 the laws that this administration is going to comply with.

03:43 The laws are very clear, and I'm going to adhere to the laws that were in place prior

03:48 to me getting in office, and I'm not going to do anything to go against those laws.
