00:00 Government's made a complete mess of HS2 over 13 years.
00:03 They've lost control of the project.
00:06 Billions of pounds have been invested and now lost.
00:08 Many, many promises have been made, which are now broken.
00:13 I can't stand here and say and commit
00:17 to reversing that decision.
00:18 They've taken a wrecking ball to it.
00:21 What I can say is that an incoming Labour government
00:24 will be laser-focused on growing our economy
00:27 in all parts of the country.
00:29 That means we need better connectivity.
00:31 Northern Powerhouse Rail absolutely
00:34 needs to be delivered.
00:35 So I'm already talking to local mayors
00:38 about how we deliver that.
00:39 We do need that in place.
00:41 But most of all, we need a strategy
00:44 for actually delivering.
00:45 And I don't think anybody's been taken in by the Prime Minister's
00:49 announcement yesterday, where he basically
00:52 put reheated existing projects and pretended
00:56 they were alternatives to HS2.
00:58 Most of those had already been announced many times over.
01:01 And I don't think that he should expect the British public
01:04 to believe a word that he says on this.
