00:02 Porsche released the 991.2 version
00:10 of their iconic turbo a little while back,
00:13 but you'd be forgiven for not noticing.
00:15 Sure, horsepower was up by 20 to 580 for the S version,
00:19 but beyond that, the big news
00:20 was an upgraded navigation system.
00:22 (horn honking)
00:23 Then we took one to the test track and it did a wheelie.
00:26 No, really.
00:27 The new Turbo S launches with such ferocity
00:30 that the front wheels came up off the ground.
00:33 It then managed to run the quarter mile in 10.5 seconds,
00:37 same as the Bugatti Veyron.
00:38 So yeah, it's great at drag racing,
00:40 but how will it do on a racetrack?
00:42 (upbeat music)
00:45 (engine revving)
00:49 (yells)
00:53 (engine revving)
00:56 Yeah!
01:06 Balance feeling really, really great so far.
01:13 (engine revving)
01:16 (engine revving)
01:18 Dick! (laughs)
01:37 (engine revving)
01:40 (yells)
01:45 I love the brake light.
01:51 See how we do here in corkscrew.
01:53 Oh yeah, beautiful.
01:54 (engine revving)
01:57 Record speed over the corkscrew, I can just feel it.
02:01 (engine revving)
02:07 This thing just does it for me.
02:09 (engine revving)
02:12 So easy to come off that hairpin.
02:22 So easy.
02:23 No, I've changed my mind, I don't wanna get out.
02:30 I'm just so utterly blown away by the capability
02:34 of the newest version of the 911 Turbo S.
02:37 There's a meme, there's a theme out in the world,
02:40 Porsche land, that the 911 Turbo is so good,
02:43 it's maybe a little bit boring.
02:45 Boring in its extreme capability.
02:49 Incredibly rewarding to drive,
02:53 and the braking impressed the living daylights out of me.
02:57 The amount of braking Gs and force it will generate,
03:02 the nice firm pedal without much travel that never changes,
03:05 and a normal streetable car.
03:08 I mean, you can take this to the coast for the weekend
03:10 or down to 7-Eleven to get your pint of half and half.
03:14 (engine revving)
03:16 I was aggressive.
03:18 I was driving that car hard, 'cause I could.
03:21 It's like a ball player with soft hands.
03:24 When you see a good football receiver
03:26 and he catches a football
03:27 and the way it just lands in his hands,
03:29 that's how this car lands in a corner.
03:31 It lands in soft in the corner and just rips,
03:34 just holds, so you can drive it hard, hard.
03:38 This car is just incredibly capable.
03:42 It's an amazing accomplishment in today's sports car world.
03:45 Whoa, the Turbo S can go around corners too.
03:49 It might actually have been
03:50 Randy's favorite car on the track.
03:52 Why?
03:53 Because the Turbo S is not only blindingly quick,
03:55 but it doesn't put a foot wrong.
03:57 There just isn't any bad behavior.
03:59 It goes like stink.
04:01 One minute 33.21 seconds, as a matter of fact,
04:04 is just two tenths of a second
04:06 off the much more track-focused AMG GT-R.
04:09 You may think of the new Turbo S as weaponized speed,
04:12 effortless weaponized speed at that,
04:14 which is why it's in third place.
04:16 See, the judges felt that perhaps the big orange Porsche
04:19 was just too easy to drive.
04:21 It wasn't rewarding enough,
04:22 more of a show-off than a pure driver's car.
04:25 Also, there were two cars that we liked better.
04:27 (car engine revving)
04:30 (car engine revving)
04:34 (car engine revving)
04:37 (car engine revving)
04:40 (explosion)
