On this episode of Modified presented by Honda
Transcript
00:00 On this episode of modified we're at Eibach 2017. What started as a simple get-together in 2004 has quickly turned into a major event for
00:08 Honda fans in Southern California. This same event last year drew over a thousand Hondas, more than 25 vendors, and this year it seems even bigger.

00:21 (upbeat music)
00:50 - So if you're a Honda fan,
00:51 Eibach is the meet that you have to go to.
00:54 This is the Mecca for Honda fans.
00:55 We didn't want to disappoint,
00:58 so for this episode, we're showing up
01:00 in a brand new 2017 Honda Civic Si.
01:03 - G-meter engaged.
01:08 - Let's see it.
01:09 - You ready? - Yeah.
01:10 (engine revving)
01:13 It's pretty good.
01:15 I like the red flashing indicators.
01:17 - Yeah.
01:17 - Letting you know when it's time to shift.
01:19 (upbeat music)
01:22 If Jeff and I are known for anything,
01:24 it's safe and reliable driving.
01:26 Since this isn't our car, we promise Honda just that.
01:29 We had the CHB closed down this canyon road
01:32 just for us to drive to Eibach.
01:33 (laughing)
01:36 - There's a lot of gravel on that turn,
01:37 getting these brakes worked in.
01:39 - Yeah.
01:40 This is like the first model that ever came out,
01:41 turbocharged in the United States.
01:43 And one of the cool features,
01:45 you can hit sport mode.
01:46 - Give me sport mode.
01:47 - Ooh, sport mode engaged.
01:49 Should be a little stiffer
01:50 and better handling all around.
01:52 I mean, we're on 235 tires,
01:54 which is insane for a front wheel drive Civic.
01:56 - It's fun.
01:58 Steering's fast, feels really tight.
02:01 Brakes are responsive.
02:02 Turbo Civic 235s, chirps second with ease.
02:10 - Yeah.
02:11 - And it's pretty quick.
02:13 - Yeah.
02:14 (laughing)
02:15 - So after having a little bit of fun with the car
02:17 and testing out some of its new features,
02:19 like that turbocharged engine,
02:21 as well as the G meter that Jeff loves so much,
02:23 we decided to head east to Eibach.
02:25 We're here at Baldwin Park, California.
02:29 We're at my buddy Amir's shop called Marvelous Tune,
02:32 and he's been kind enough to give us a car
02:33 for the Honda Eibach meet.
02:34 So let's go check it out.
02:36 Amir and his girlfriend are dedicated to the tuner culture.
02:39 They've got a super cool shop
02:40 where they chase their passions and build fun wild cars.
02:43 Being a Honda and Porsche enthusiast,
02:45 he has a widespread of designs and performance combinations
02:47 when he builds the street or track vehicles.
02:50 Amir spends his weekends at Willow Springs Racetrack
02:52 teaching time attack when he isn't at the shop wrenching.
02:55 Amir's a basic definition of a true enthusiast.
02:58 - Hell yeah, dude, this car is awesome.
03:00 - Thanks, man.
03:01 - Yeah, so you got the JDM front,
03:02 what else do you have done to it?
03:03 - So I have the Jays Racing fenders, a GT wing,
03:06 I built a custom splitter for it,
03:08 the old school CPO35s, the Pana Sports up front,
03:12 and it blends between show car and track car.
03:14 It's something that I can take on track on the weekends
03:16 and hammer on, and then also it looks at home
03:19 at Eibach Meet or any other show.
03:20 - I think a lot of people can appreciate a car
03:22 that is nicely well built, but also functional too.
03:25 So we should have a good time there.
03:27 - Cool, man, I hope so.
03:28 And speaking of which, I'm nowhere near done,
03:31 so I'm gonna need your help.
03:32 - Damn, dude, you didn't tell me about that,
03:34 but I guess we gotta do work, we gotta do work.
03:35 - Unfortunately, all right, man.
03:37 - Let's do it.
03:38 This car is super awesome, red or dead.
03:41 I know it's gonna be Matt's car, Matt's car sucks,
03:43 but we've got some things to do on this,
03:46 so we're gonna keep wrenching away
03:47 and we'll see you guys at the show.
03:49 - Hey guys, we're here at Sport Car Motion.
03:51 They're one of the best Honda tuners around,
03:53 and they got a really clean S2000 we're gonna check out,
03:56 and hopefully it's what helps me take out Jeff.
03:58 So let's check it out.
04:00 One of the cool things about this grassroots shop
04:02 is it has a spectrum of highly tuned cars,
04:04 ranging from street to drag to road race.
04:06 Loy, aka the T-Daddy, has been running this shop
04:10 for about 13 years.
04:11 He's made a major impression in our culture
04:13 and has been featured on the cover
04:14 of multiple automotive magazines.
04:16 Let's see what the T-Daddy has in store
04:17 for me to take to Eibach.
04:19 - When we build this thing,
04:20 we're gonna be less than a week.
04:22 - Wow.
04:22 This S2000 is a simple but fun driver's car.
04:25 It's got minimal performance parts,
04:27 with the exception of a tune and some body work,
04:29 but the car is super friendly on the road.
04:31 It's something you can drive to the track
04:32 and have a ton of fun without needing a full-on team
04:35 to keep it dialed.
04:36 The car is a real head turner.
04:38 It stands out anywhere you take it,
04:39 and I'm excited to get this car out
04:41 in front of the fans at Eibach and see what they think.
04:44 - So for this episode of Modified,
04:46 we're at the 13th annual Honda Eibach Meet.
04:48 This is one of the biggest Honda meets
04:50 in the whole country.
04:51 - Yeah, and Matt and I are from the drifting world.
04:53 We have no idea what these meets are like
04:55 or anything about these cars.
04:57 - No, we're just psyched to check it out.
04:58 - Yeah.
04:59 Well, first we're gonna take a quick break
05:00 and check out our Project Civic.
05:01 - That's right.
05:02 This episode, we're gonna get intake and exhaust
05:04 over with our friends at Greddy.
05:06 - Check it.
05:07 - Hey guys, it's Sam Deere from Super Street,
05:12 and welcome back to our Modified Civic build.
05:14 Last time around, we got started
05:16 by having Doug McMillan of Honda
05:18 to install and tune their Flash Pro unit.
05:20 This time around, I'm here at Greddy Performance Products
05:23 in Irvine, California.
05:24 We're here to have Greddy install a new exhaust
05:26 to maximize the performance of our Civic.
05:29 - Well, since the new Civic has this nice cutout
05:31 for the exhaust, we took advantage of that
05:33 and tried to come up with a free-flowing system
05:36 with a bigger diameter,
05:37 and we went with a three-inch since it's turbocharged,
05:39 and we're able to create something
05:42 that's gonna be good for any upgrade, more boost,
05:46 especially with the Hyundai, da-da-da, you know, tune.
05:49 - In addition to the intercooler and exhaust upgrades
05:51 from Greddy Performance Products,
05:53 we went ahead and added an AEM intake as well.
05:56 Now we have even more enhanced airflow,
05:58 more power at lower RPM,
06:00 and a quicker throttle response, eliminating air turbulence.
06:03 In order to get the full potential from upgrades,
06:08 we need to jump on the dyno and see
06:10 where the power stands now.
06:11 As you can see, we've made significant gains,
06:24 reaching 230 foot-pounds of torque at 3,000 RPM
06:27 and 212 horsepower at 5,900 RPM.
06:31 Next time, we'll focus on the handling and suspension
06:33 of our 2017 Civic Hatchback Sport,
06:35 which is well on its way to being modified.
06:39 (engine revving)
06:41 - So basically what we have going on
06:42 is we're doing a competition to see
06:44 who gets the most likes, votes for each other's car.
06:48 I brought this '97 DC2 Integra.
06:50 Matt, what'd you bring?
06:51 - I got a '06 Honda S2000,
06:53 just kind of clean, aggressive track styling.
06:56 - My car's obviously gonna win, 'cause--
06:58 - What's your hashtag?
06:59 - My hashtag is #jeffdc2.
07:01 - Okay.
07:02 - His is #mattsucks.
07:03 - Yeah, mine is #matts2k.
07:05 - Yeah, whatever, let's go see who wins.
07:07 - All right, let's see.
07:08 - Guys, do me a favor, tell me which one you like more,
07:11 Integra or S2000?
07:12 - S2K.
07:13 - S2.
07:14 - S2.
07:15 - S2000, baby.
07:16 - Right on, thank you.
07:17 - I like the Integra.
07:18 - That's what I like to hear, thank you, I appreciate that.
07:20 - I like the S2K.
07:21 - All right.
07:22 - Vote not S2K.
07:23 - Vote Matt smells Jeff DC2 all day.
07:27 - Yeah, I'm gonna have to go with the S2000 for sure.
07:29 - What's up, man, what car do you like more,
07:30 Integra or S2000?
07:32 (engine revving)
07:32 - I'm gonna have to go with the Integra, man.
07:34 - Integra, no!
07:35 - That's my dude right there.
07:36 - Hey, what do you like more, man,
07:37 you like S2000 or Integra?
07:39 - I have to go with the S2K, man.
07:40 - All right, all right, that's another one, thank you.
07:44 - He's brainwashed.
07:45 (laughing)
07:46 - How long should we keep going?
07:47 It's like I'm starting to feel bad, man.
07:49 - It's a close battle, I think Matt has the upper hand.
07:53 I'm not too happy about it, I think it's rigged
07:56 a little bit, but you know, I mean, we're gonna get it back.
07:59 People love Integra's more, they listen to Ja Rule more,
08:02 so we'll be good, we'll be good.
08:03 (upbeat music)
08:06 - So the S2001, you know, the fans have spoken.
08:12 - The fans have spoken.
08:14 I mean, the S2000's a killer car, super clean.
08:17 - But there's a lot of diehard Integra fans out there too.
08:19 - You won, fair and square.
08:22 So I guess I'll take the Integra for a drive of shame.
08:26 - Yeah, and I'm gonna go take a victory lap in the S2000.
08:29 - Damn.
08:30 (upbeat music)
08:33 (upbeat music)
08:35 (upbeat music)
08:38 (upbeat music)
08:40 (whooshing)
08:43 (explosion)
