Derry woman Celina Ball speaks of breast cancer diagnosis

Celina Ball from Derry was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2016 after attending her regular breast screening appointment. Celina shared her story during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

00:00 In 2016 I was sent for a routine mammogram. I went to the mobile and Craigin and had it done.

00:08 Then after that I got a recall, I got a letter, they come back to the breastfeeding clinic.

00:18 Came back and they done another mammogram and an ultrasound.

00:23 And they told me then that I had an early form of breast cancer.

00:29 Nothing at all, I was just sent for a routine mammogram.

00:32 I was shocked to know that I had cancer because I had no lumps, nothing.

00:38 I was going "Oh, I'm going to be fine" because when you get the letter on then,

00:43 my sisters got the letters on to say they're fine, they're fine.

00:46 I got a letter on to say I was called back.

00:49 And I was the one out of the three that had cancer.

00:53 My cancer was really small, it was as small as a grain of salt.

00:57 And it hadn't formed into a tumour, so it was good that way.

01:01 Treatment was okay, treatment was fine.

01:05 I had plenty of support from my daughter who works in the breast clinic.

01:09 And she was able to address me and do everything that I had to be done at the time.

01:14 And my family, I've just classed myself now as a survivor.

01:20 And that's the way I look at it.

01:22 And hopefully it never comes back on me.

01:25 Anybody that misses an appointment is crazy.

01:29 Because it saves lives.

01:32 The sooner you get it done, the better.

01:34 If you're sent for an appointment, go for it.
