00:00 What happens next?
00:02 Uh...
00:04 What do you got?
00:08 Um...
00:10 In terms of what?
00:14 Where do we...
00:16 Yeah, that's a good question. Where do we start?
00:18 I would say...
00:20 I mean, your quarterback just can't do that again.
00:22 Like, coming into this game,
00:24 I don't think anybody was...
00:26 Right. Demario Douglas, right?
00:28 Like, he fumbles once
00:30 and he gets benched forever.
00:32 Mac Jones makes three of the most horrific turnovers
00:34 you can imagine that are entirely on him.
00:36 And yeah, eventually he got benched, but like,
00:38 there's gotta be consequences.
00:40 As you said, Taylor, like...
00:42 This, defensively,
00:44 they could've stayed in this game
00:46 if the offense just didn't puke all over itself.
00:48 They could've lost the game 20-3, you know?
00:50 But still had the ball
00:52 with a chance to get within a score or whatever
00:54 and make it competitive and like,
00:56 stay in the game. They weren't in it.
00:58 Real quick, while we discuss
01:00 what you do with Mac here.
01:02 And I am curious whether, you know,
01:04 all of the forgotten stuff from the offseason
01:06 about the rift between Mac and Bill.
01:08 And honestly, I still don't think Mac handled
01:10 that great in the preseason.
01:12 Every time he was asked about Bill's input on the offense,
01:14 he'd talk about Bill O'Brien and talk about
01:16 how good Bill Belichick is with defense.
01:18 I don't know how connected they are.
01:20 But Mac, I think you ride or die at this point
01:22 with him. But...
01:24 Hold on.
01:26 Oh, Dak Prescott on Zeke. They need to play him more.
01:28 But hey, who am I? Anyway, here's
01:30 Mac after the game, talking about his performance.

02:04 Anyway, here's Mac
02:08 after the game, talking about his performance.
02:10 Mac, how do you sort of explain what unfolded
02:14 out there today?
02:16 Yeah, I think for me, just not good enough.
02:18 Wasn't my day. Can't turn the ball over
02:20 like that and try and be a good team.
02:22 Definitely a lot to learn from.
02:24 Definitely disappointed in myself.
02:26 I feel like I can play a lot better
02:28 and I have to to be good teams.
02:30 Do you know what your
02:32 starting status is going forward?
02:34 Are you concerned? What do you think this week will be like for you?
02:36 I think it'll be a good test
02:38 just for me, just trying to stay
02:40 focused on what I can control
02:42 and that's playing better. Just got to evaluate
02:44 everything. It wasn't my day
02:46 today. Hopefully there's better days ahead.
02:48 [Music]
02:50 That tells me
02:54 nothing. What are you laughing about?
02:56 [Laughter]
02:58 It's just a ridiculous
03:00 circumstance, man. Like, what's he supposed
03:02 to say? I'm not saying, I'm not
03:04 defending him. I'm just saying
03:06 you play terribly, man.
03:08 You just got to take it on the chin and move on.
03:10 That's all you can do. How much damage?
03:12 This is a good point that
03:14 this guy
03:16 with multiple first names
03:18 has, Mike Larry.
03:20 Mike Larry, David Bill.
03:22 Damage to Kidd in year two.
03:24 I don't know. I don't think it helped.
03:26 I definitely don't think it helped.
03:28 I don't think you need to be going
03:30 back because of how badly he played today.
03:32 Like, I don't see, like, no last year
03:34 did not help that had no
03:36 bearing on what happened tonight. That was just
03:38 really, really bad football from
03:40 Mac Jones. Doesn't matter what happened in the past.
03:42 That's objectively, full stop.
03:44 Can't do that again. Like you said,
03:46 I can't do that again. I have to be better.
03:48 I can't do this. I think if Bill did
03:50 something, it wasn't the coaches he gave him last year
03:52 and psychologically scarred him. I think it's everything
03:54 else that happened around it, which is, again,
03:56 the personnel issues. It's just
03:58 you talked about the last years of Brady.
04:00 You know, and we talked
04:02 about it a ton and how Brady
04:04 wasn't happy and Brady wanted more,
04:06 you know, to be taken care of
04:08 and more weapons and this and that. And even the final
04:10 Super Bowl, they won that more with
04:12 defense and Brady wasn't super
04:14 happy that year. And just the things that he
04:16 wanted were never fully addressed in the
04:18 later years and they took it for granted.
04:20 They took him, he felt he was taken for
04:22 granted and
04:24 they ignored, you know, whatever
04:26 you can do to make your quarterback
04:28 happy.
04:30 They haven't done a freaking thing
04:32 to help Mac Jones out, outside of
04:34 O'Brien this year. But yes,
04:36 I mean, absolutely nothing to make his
04:38 job any easier right now.

04:54 or lose. - I mean, absolutely
04:56 nothing to make his job any easier right now.
04:58 - And I think there's gotta be a philosophical
05:00 change because the offensive
05:02 line has been an issue. I don't,
05:04 I think that not investing in
05:06 tackle sooner, more than
05:08 what he did this offseason, is the problem.
05:10 I think that you knew Isaiah Wynn
05:12 was on shaky ground, be it
05:14 performance, health, or even if he was gonna be
05:16 on the team. But you didn't invest
05:18 in a replacement plan for
05:20 him with an early enough pick or, you know,
05:22 free agency or whatever, where you could say,
05:24 "Okay, you know, the
05:26 season isn't gonna rely on him." 'Cause that
05:28 screwed them last year and I think it also screwed them this
05:30 year. I think they tried to address it this season
05:32 as well as they could without just completely
05:34 overspending on a tackle and
05:36 that blew up in their face. But in terms
05:38 of the philosophy of spending on a weapon,
05:40 like, this is the season where I'm like, "Yeah,
05:42 man, you gotta do something." Because if you
05:44 can't rely on the protection, then you
05:46 at least need to give him someone where when he's
05:48 in these bad situations, they can find
05:50 open spaces or they can at least
05:52 catch the ball even if they're not open and produce big
05:54 plays on their own. And that just hasn't been
05:56 happening. So, I think this has
05:58 to be the season where you concede to some
06:00 degree and be like, "Alright, we really do
06:02 need to help this guy out."
06:04 - On Mac Jones, Belichick
06:06 insists he did not bench him.
06:08 He said--
06:10 - Didn't he say that last year too? When he
06:12 benched him? - He--
06:14 he, like, put it this way. He is more
06:16 definitive today. He said Jones is starting
06:18 next week. He-- last year, he
06:20 let quarterback controversies fester.
06:22 Tonight,
06:24 he's not. Which is
06:26 better. Because ultimately, of course, you're starting
06:28 him. It's the only option that you have. And what's
06:30 the point of messing with the guy's head like you did last
06:32 year? Which was ridiculous, by the way.
06:34 Yeah, no, people in the chat
06:36 saying excuses for Mac. No one's making
06:38 excuses for Mac. All of it
06:40 is true. It's a little bit of everything.
06:42 They've got problems all up and down the board
06:44 and Mac played a horrible, horrible
06:46 game today. The point being is
06:48 he's the only guy you've got.
06:50 You can shuffle around the deck chairs
06:52 a little bit. And you can add
06:54 personnel and you could have added some more in the offseason
06:56 to do things. You couldn't
06:58 really get another quarterback. So, you
07:00 have to find a way to make what
07:02 Mac can do for you work.
07:04 And they don't have that right now.
07:06 What bugs me the most is if you're not going to spend
07:08 on that personnel, Taylor, and go
07:10 get the shiny, expensive receiver
07:12 or draft them or
07:14 do whatever,
07:16 then the people you do bring in at your
07:18 bargain basement values or the people that you
07:20 draft who might have been a little bit lower
07:22 on other people's draft boards have to be able
07:24 to play clean. They have to not make
07:26 mistakes. You can't be a penalized team. You can't
07:28 turn the ball over. They're not doing that
07:30 either. They really are. I always use the metaphor.
07:32 I always use the analogy.
07:34 They're like a pitcher who throws 87
07:36 miles an hour. They've got to be on the
07:38 black all the time with movement.
07:40 Perfect control. They leave
07:42 anything out over the plate, it's going to get freaking
07:44 smacked. So, the Patriots cannot
07:46 make mistakes. They cannot
07:48 do it because they just don't
07:50 have enough talent to be able to make up for it.
