00:00 One of our new segments here at RSP is "What are the business stories and business tips that will be shared with us?"
00:06 Dian Medina will be watching this this morning.
00:10 MSME or Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises are the backbone of the economy of many countries,
00:18 including the Philippines.
00:20 That's why today, we will be going to a small business that you cannot underestimate.
00:28 We are here at a tea, coffee and chocolate shop here at Matahimic Street, Quezon City
00:34 to find out their secrets to a successful business.
00:38 Let's go!
00:39 Let's find out the success story of the security owner, Ms. Geneva Galos.
00:55 Hi Ms. Jen, how are you?
00:56 Hi Ms. Dian, I'm good.
00:58 Ms. Jen, we are excited to find out how your journey as a businesswoman started.
01:03 I grew up in Davao and I always taste or drink "sikwate".
01:10 "Sikwate" is a Bisaya word for hot chocolate.
01:13 I've wanted to make it for a long time,
01:14 considering that it's my passion to cook and discover,
01:20 especially when it comes to eating and drinking.
01:23 Until the pandemic paved the way.
01:26 During the pandemic,
01:28 when everyone was struggling,
01:29 this is where your business started?
01:31 Yes, because everybody stays at home.
01:35 That's when I started to play with taste.
01:39 And I want to have this twist.
01:41 Because when you say "kakao", it's just hot chocolate.
01:44 Now, in the coffee shop, in the milk tea shop,
01:49 I don't want to copy the business.
01:52 "Our chocolate is so good, our kakao is so good."
01:56 And I would like to bring this to the world.
01:59 Which is very, very possible.
02:01 And of course, with the help of ABC World as well.
02:03 What really sets you apart is that you really want to boost this product,
02:07 this "kakao", which is from Davao.
02:09 So it's nice because this is your hometown.
02:11 So it's good that we can make it even stronger because of your business.
02:16 But let's go back to your business.
02:17 Is this your first business, this "kakao"?
02:19 Or you have other businesses in the past?
02:21 I was surprised that my mother was in business.
02:24 But it was a small business, a canteen.
02:27 But I told myself that I wanted to do that.
02:30 But because I'm a single mom, I raised them alone.
02:34 So there were two of them.
02:35 And then, of course, I was doing both.
02:39 Being a mother, being a father, and at the same time,
02:42 I was earning.
02:44 So we all know that I really lack...
02:47 Of course, I have a lot of sidelines to help, to add.
02:51 So I tried a lot, I did a lot of direct selling.
02:55 I sold a lot, I sold everything I could.
02:57 I sold a lot, and then I went to direct selling.
03:02 Until I finally had the strength of my heart.
03:06 To leave my employment and just focus on my business.
03:11 For single moms who are still feeling down,
03:14 who also want to do business to help their children, their families,
03:19 do you have any advice for them?
03:22 Well, of course, we're all afraid to try.
03:27 Of course, we have reasons like no capital,
03:32 no business to invest in,
03:34 and at the same time, who will you approach?
03:40 First of all, just have confidence in yourself.
03:44 That's all.
03:45 If you see that you can do it, you can do it,
03:50 just do it.
03:52 Because you won't know if you can do it
03:55 if you don't try it.
03:56 If you want to eat an original delicacy from Davao,
04:02 and at the same time, the food that's home-cooked,
04:06 that's different, because you won't see it elsewhere.
04:12 Alright, Ms. Jen, would you like to tell us more about your bestsellers?
04:15 I'm very excited to share or bring here
04:21 the best delicacies or food of Davao.
04:25 [music]
04:44 It's not easy to do business.
04:46 You need to be hardworking, patient, and confident.
04:50 These are the lessons that Ms. Geneva Galos shared.
