00:00 They have gyms at the airports.
00:01 What are you gonna do for three hours?
00:02 Eat some spaghetti at McDonald's, go to the gym.
00:05 Hey, this is Diplo.
00:06 I've got a crazy schedule, you know.
00:08 I'm a traveling producer, musician, DJ.
00:11 I'm on the road probably 300 days a year,
00:14 but somehow I make time to always train every day,
00:16 sweat once a day.
00:17 This is a little bit of my regimen on the road.
00:19 (upbeat music)
00:22 I'm traveling a lot.
00:25 I have long layovers.
00:26 Like this weekend, we went from Bali to New York
00:28 and had to stay in Dubai for four hours.
00:30 And a lot of these big airports, these big hubs,
00:31 like they have gyms at the airports.
00:33 So if you have a layover,
00:34 I suggest anybody go to the gym during your layover.
00:36 What are you gonna do for three hours?
00:37 Ride a bike for an hour,
00:38 and you're like having a great night's sleep
00:40 on the next flight.
00:41 When I do have time at home or in New York,
00:43 or places that have like a reliable gym,
00:44 we do like regiments.
00:45 We do a lot of mobility exercises.
00:47 Yeah, here's some simple stuff that I do
00:48 whenever I have a real functional gym.
00:50 (upbeat music)
00:56 This exercise on the bench,
00:59 this is like a little protocol I like to do
01:00 that does all your core muscles.
01:03 And it's just fun.
01:04 When you sit on the bench, you don't have to move around.
01:06 I was at this Dior show in Tokyo,
01:07 and Kate Moss was there, the audience I was DJing at.
01:09 She was in the gym with me,
01:10 and I remember she came up to me and was like,
01:12 "That looks like the craziest exercise I've ever seen."
01:14 And I made sure I had a really heavy weight,
01:16 did the rows, did all the core exercises,
01:18 and Kate Moss was really impressed by that exercise.
01:21 So I call it the Kate Moss sequence.
01:23 It's important for the number to be really big.
01:26 So everybody in the gym knows what you're doing.
01:28 And then you do eight or 10 rows on each side.
01:33 But I kinda like to have my back arched a little bit,
01:41 so I really feel like,
01:42 I can feel the shoulder lat really pulling.
01:45 'Cause if you hunch a little bit,
01:46 that's not safe, I feel like.
01:48 (upbeat music)
01:52 My shoulders was always important for me.
01:56 I love doing core stuff.
01:57 You do your triceps.
01:59 20, and then, (laughs)
02:03 I'm just like, "Edit those."
02:04 And then you do like.
02:05 As a lot of you might've seen,
02:11 I made headline news by escaping Burning Man.
02:13 I didn't mean to, I mean, I was with a big group of people.
02:15 We just decided to walk out,
02:17 but I documented it a little bit.
02:18 We walked six miles, took us like two hours.
02:21 And from there, we hitched another ride,
02:22 and I made it to Reno, and got myself to D.C.,
02:24 and I had a show that night.
02:25 So, I think all year round, I do train.
02:28 And maybe it is for something like that,
02:29 where you're stuck at Burning Man.
02:31 I got kind of famous for the weekend.
02:33 Pretty cool.
02:34 Anything is possible, you know?
02:35 Keep this up the whole time.
02:37 And I do like.
02:38 And sometimes,
02:46 this is something I learned when I was a wrestler.
02:49 We do this exercise on the floor.
02:51 Everybody had to write their name with their feet.
02:54 Name's Wesley, so I would be like.
02:56 But you get every part of your abs working on this.
03:06 And putting it back is kind of like,
03:10 move like that, and go like this.
03:12 You drop it, and that's like one set.
03:14 That three times, that kind of does everything,
03:17 from here all the way down to your core.
03:20 That's a really good core burnout.
03:23 It's mostly just a show off.
03:24 I don't know if it's that functional.
03:25 If I do the L-sit on kettlebells, that's kind of difficult.
03:28 I love just body weight exercises,
03:30 'cause that's so functional for me.
03:32 If I'm in a hotel room or wherever I'm at,
03:34 you can always do that.
03:35 - Change the angle a little bit, Wes.
03:38 - Okay, more straight?
03:39 - Yeah.
03:40 - Just go ahead and lay from there.
03:42 I wanna make sure I don't get injured on the road.
03:44 And that's a really good functional exercise
03:45 that makes my shoulders healthy.
03:47 Having functional shoulders is very important
03:48 for what I love to do, which is boxing and surfing.
03:51 That L-sit exercise is actually my triumphant return
03:54 for my labor room to be back again.
03:56 So I did my first triathlon last year,
04:01 the Malibu Triathlon.
04:02 Made a huge mistake.
04:03 I bought the most expensive bike I could find,
04:05 and I didn't charge it.
04:06 So I just was on the highest gear setting,
04:08 which is like, you pedal like this
04:10 and you're getting nowhere.
04:10 I'm like, bro, everybody's passing me.
04:12 People are passing me on beach cruisers.
04:13 I'm just like, this is fucking trash.
04:15 So I turned back around, I just parked it.
04:17 I kind of cheated.
04:18 And I finished the triathlon, I just disqualified.
04:20 So I have a Peloton at home.
04:22 I don't really ride a bike around Malibu.
04:24 It's a little bit dangerous in the PCH.
04:26 These stretches I do on the ground.
04:30 Things like that, I might do a whole hour
04:31 of just stretching and small core exercises.
04:34 Probably my favorite kind of workout.
04:37 This kind of stuff is good
04:38 because it's really good for your mobility,
04:39 but it actually takes a lot of leg strength.
04:42 And every time you do this,
04:43 you really see how much more flexible you are
04:46 like every time you go down.
04:48 Anywhere in the world, there's gonna be yoga.
04:50 Kazakhstan, St. Petersburg, Lagos.
04:52 There's gonna be yoga class in the city.
04:53 I swear to God, I'm not lying.
04:55 There's always yoga anywhere
04:56 and there's always a trail to run on.
04:58 I remember we had a show in Kenya, Nairobi.
05:00 The show ended at like 5 a.m.
05:01 and our flight was at like eight or 9 a.m.
05:04 And I went on this little running path near my hotel
05:07 and the running path like entered a safari.
05:09 So you were running and there's literally like giraffes.
05:12 Got back to my hotel, caught the plane.
05:13 And I slept on the plane like a baby.
05:15 Just kind of like get my mental health
05:17 and my physical health up
05:18 for those little spare times that I have.
05:21 We're done.
05:21 That's my little regimen here for men's health.
05:23 I'm Diplo and there's no excuses.
05:27 Whatever time you have,
05:28 take advantage of it and be healthy.
05:30 (upbeat music)
