00:00 "They think you're some kind of god. The man who returned from the dead."
00:05 Welcome to Miss Mojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the most notable instances
00:09 where characters who were deceased, or who were believed to be, came back on television.
00:14 "What happened to you? What the hell happened to you?"
00:21 Note that we are excluding folks from animated shows and
00:24 daytime soap operas, and that there will be major spoilers ahead.
00:29 10. Jimmy Lishman
00:32 Shameless. Jimmy was a breath of fresh air in Fiona Gallagher's life. Between basically
00:37 raising her siblings and trying to keep her father from destroying their lives,
00:41 she was able to have a sense of normalcy with him. We're not saying he was perfect by any means, but
00:46 still. So fans were understandably crushed when he appeared to have died towards the end of season 3.
00:53 However, a post-credits scene in the following season's finale revealed he was alive and living
00:58 under a assumed name. "Jack, are you gonna go inside?" "No." His reunion with Fiona was hilarious,
01:06 touching, and surprisingly violent, as she lost her cool on him in the middle of a busy Chicago
01:12 street. "You got married?" "What was I supposed to do? Was I supposed to sit on my porch knitting,
01:18 hoping one day you'd show back up?" 9. Phil Coulson - Marvel's Agents of Shield
01:24 Given that Agent Phil Coulson died on movie theater screens just a year before, Marvel fans
01:29 probably turned into Agents of Shield just to see how he managed to survive the long,
01:34 long, and long wait. But, as we'll see in the next video, he was a very good actor.
01:39 He was a very good actor, and he was a very good actor. He was a very good actor.
01:44 Fans thought Coulson might be done for when Loki killed him in The Avengers.
01:49 "It's okay, boss. This was never gonna work if they didn't have something to-"
01:58 While he did actually die, Coulson was apparently brought back to life under the orders of Nick Fury
02:06 and a mysterious substance with some potentially nasty side effects.
02:11 "Agent Coulson was killed in action before the battle in New York. Got the full report?"
02:15 "Welcome to level 7." Coulson returned to lead the Shield
02:20 Agents through battles with more bad guys, this time on the small screen. However, he had, well,
02:26 feelings about how he was resurrected. "It was a break glass in case of emergency situation."
02:32 "Yes, but that emergency was supposed to be the fall of an Avenger."
02:34 "Exactly." 8. Cara Starbuck-Thrace
02:39 (Battlestar Galactica) The arrogant but heroic Captain Cara Thrace,
02:44 known as Starbuck, apparently died when she deliberately flew her Viper into a violent
02:49 storm system. Her ending was thought to be a fitting climax to her emotional character arc.
03:05 Although she was a fan favourite, viewers had no reason to think she was coming back
03:09 after watching her aircraft explode. Three episodes later,
03:13 she reappeared in that same aircraft, seemingly unharmed.
03:17 "Hi, Lee." "Cara? Don't freak out, it really is me."
03:22 Viewers were relieved, and Starbuck's sudden and inexplicable return sparked an entire
03:27 season's worth of drama over whether or not she was an evil agent.
03:32 "I saw your ship blow up." "Say not."
03:35 7. Sherlock Holmes (Sherlock)
03:38 The feud between the brilliant detective Sherlock Holmes and his villainous equal,
03:42 Professor Moriarty, ended much the way it did in Arthur Conan Doyle's original stories.
03:48 Though the details differ from the source material,
03:51 their tete-a-tete eventually ends with both men seemingly dying.
03:54 The second season finale concluded with the revelation that Sherlock was indeed still alive,
04:04 but viewers had to wait roughly two years to learn more about how he potentially pulled it off.
04:08 "Speed was paramount. The airbag needed to be got out of the way just as John cleared the station."
04:14 The storyline has received a mixed reaction from fans, but many would say it seemed perfectly
04:19 in line with the ingenuity of the show's iconic lead character.
04:24 "Everything was anticipated, every eventuality allowed for."
04:27 6. Michael Schofield (Prison Break)
04:30 The show's TV movie continuation, Prison Break, The Final Break,
04:34 ended with Michael Schofield sacrificing himself to save his wife.
04:37 [SFX]
04:43 Well, when the series was revived in 2017, Schofield would return as well.
04:48 The writers found an appropriately bonkers way to explain how he survived being electrocuted
04:53 involving cover-ups, blackmail, and a shady terrorist organisation.
04:57 "Maybe there's something to destiny."
04:59 It's not the first time a Prison Break character made something of a miraculous return, either.
05:04 Schofield's wife, Sarah, was thought dead before she was revealed to be alive in the series' fourth season.
05:09 [SFX]
05:15 5. Michael Caldero (Jane the Virgin)
05:19 This resurrection was as shocking as the apparent death that preceded it.
05:23 Jane's happiness as a newlywed was tragically short-lived when gunshot wound complications
05:28 led to Michael's demise.
05:30 "He's not breathing!"
05:31 Killing him off was a huge left turn for the series.
05:34 This made it doubly shocking when it was revealed he didn't actually die at all.
05:37 [SFX]
05:43 "Surprise!"
05:45 The season 4 finale explained that not only did he survive,
05:48 but his death was faked by a nefarious crime boss who zapped his brain and triggered memory loss.
05:54 Though the memories returned, the romance ultimately didn't last.
05:58 Fans remained divided on the plot point, especially for what it meant for Jane and Michael's relationship.
06:04 "Ah, yes. How do you say goodbye to your ex-husband who recently returned from the dead?"
06:08 [SFX]
06:12 "Awkward hug."
06:13 4. John Winchester (Supernatural)
06:16 The amount of times characters on this dark fantasy CW series died,
06:20 came back to life, or traversed the afterlife would be hard to count.
06:24 But the show's biggest emotional gut punch had to be when the Winchester brothers'
06:29 dad came back to life in the show's 14th season.
06:32 "Dad?"
06:32 [SFX]
06:35 Having accidentally summoned a past version of their deceased father via an enchanted pearl,
06:41 the Winchesters were thrilled to reunite their family.
06:44 They also inadvertently created problems in the timeline that needed repairing.
06:49 "So to whatever brought us together, we owe you one."
06:55 It came out of nowhere, but fans were thrilled and surprised to see actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan,
07:01 who hadn't made an on-screen appearance on the show since its second season.
07:04 [SFX]
07:10 3. Jon Snow (Game of Thrones)
07:13 When Jon Snow was stabbed by his own men and left to bleed out as the credits rolled on the show's
07:19 fifth season finale, viewers didn't know what to think.
07:22 [SFX]
07:26 After all, Game of Thrones made its name by killing off unexpected characters.
07:31 Jon's own adopted father of sorts was arguably the protagonist of the show,
07:35 until he met a gruesome end at the end of the first season.
07:39 Was history repeating itself?
07:41 Viewers had to wait until the end of the next season's second episode for their answer.
07:46 Ultimately, a magical ritual brought Jon back to life, allowing him to seek vengeance.
07:52 "You put a knife in my heart.
07:54 [SFX]
08:01 I shouldn't be here."
08:02 2. Tony Almeida (24)
08:05 Federal agent Jack Bauer and his team specialized in thwarting terrorists and would-be terrorists.
08:12 But in the show's seventh season, the danger came from within.
08:15 Indeed, it was his good friend and colleague,
08:18 Tony Almeida, who was thought to have been killed in season five.
08:22 "It's not possible. Tony Almeida's dead."
08:26 However, not only was his death faked, but the enemy turned an embittered Tony against
08:32 the U.S. government. His conflict with Jack wasn't just a political one. No, it became personal.
08:39 Once one of his closest allies, Tony became Bauer's dark other half.
08:44 Both lost the most important people in their lives due to the shady machinations of the
08:49 government that employed them. Jack continued to fight for them, but Tony joined the other side.
08:55 "I don't believe you."
08:56 "Come on, Jack."
08:58 Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.
09:02 Sarah Lance, Arrow
09:03 Initially killed off in the pilot, Sarah returned as a vigilante in season two.
09:08 "Sarah?"
09:09 "I'll give you some time to let it sink in."
09:13 Bart and Evelyn Bass, Gossip Girl
09:16 Both of Chuck Bass' parents faked their deaths for wildly different reasons.
09:20 "Death? Oh my God."
09:24 Charlie Harper, Two and a Half Men
09:26 His return was pulled off in an appropriately bizarre fashion.

09:44 1. Bobby Ewing, Dallas
09:49 In the golden age of primetime soaps, Dallas ruled. Its season-capping cliffhangers became
09:56 the stuff of TV legend. Ask anyone of a certain age who shot JR, and they'll know exactly what
10:03 you're talking about. But one of its most audacious and controversial cliffhangers was
10:07 the season 9 finale's revelation that Bobby Ewing was not only alive, but in his fiancé's shower.
10:14 "Good morning."
10:16 When actor Patrick Duffy wanted to branch out career-wise,
10:22 his character was written off via a deadly car accident in the previous season's finale.
10:27 "No."
10:36 Ultimately, though, Duffy returned to the show as other opportunities weren't panning out,
10:41 and Dallas reportedly needed a boost. The writers made sense of Bobby's absence
10:46 by dubbing the ninth season an extended dream.
10:50 "It's over. None of that happened."
10:53 Which of these returns surprised you the most? Sound off in the comments.
