We walk along Liverpool's worst walkways and pavements
A recent study by the walking association, Ramblers, has revealed that Liverpool's Riverside constituency has the worst walkways for pedestrians in England and Wales. Liverpool as a whole was also in the bottom five local authority areas. We walk around a large part of Riverside district, from Princes Road, through the city centre, to Kirkdale, to see just how bad our walkways are.

00:17 So I thought I'd test the pavements for myself and walk from Princes Park all the way to

00:23 The study showed that Liverpool severely lacked a continuous public walkway where the public
00:28 had the right of way.
00:31 Starting my journey on Princes Road, I noticed the walkways were particularly bad here, with
00:35 cracked, uneven pavements and tons of litter.
00:38 I headed into the city centre, walking along Upper Parliament Street and the King Dock
00:42 Street which were equally disappointing.
00:45 I even tripped on King's Dock Street, which I have to admit I've done quite a few times.
00:51 Once in the city centre, the public walkways were much better, with mainly smooth pavements
00:56 and lovely views along the Albert Dock and the Pier Head, although I'm definitely not
01:00 a fan of the cobbles.
01:02 But heading north of the city centre, to Kirkdale and Vauxhall, the pavements were truly dire.
01:08 I did spot a few paths that were clearly designed for pedestrians or cyclists, but many featured
01:13 cracked and uneven paving stones which can make it pretty easy to trip over.
01:18 I noticed more litter around this area too, and a real lack of greenery, mainly walking
01:22 along long stretches of main road.
01:26 Some parts of the Riverside area, including Vauxhall Road, have particularly damaged pavements,
01:31 which is a concern when so many people walk along here each day to attend the City of
01:36 Liverpool College or to head into town.
01:39 While there are a number of great transport links around the city, including electric
01:43 scooters, bus routes and train services, I do agree that to encourage more people to
01:48 get active, our walkways are in need of some serious work.
