00:00 The first C-295 medium tactical transport aircraft was inducted into the Indian Air
00:08 Force at the Hindon Air Base on Monday.
00:11 The induction took place in the presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
00:15 On September 20, the C-295 aircraft landed in Gujarat's Vadodara, days after it was
00:20 handed over to the IAF in the southern Spanish city of Seville.
00:25 On September 13, Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal V.R. Chaudhary received the first of the 56
00:30 C-295 transport aircraft, two years after India sealed a Rs. 21,935 crore deal with
00:37 Airbus Defence and Space to procure the jets.
00:41 Under the deal, Airbus will deliver the first 16 aircraft in fly-away condition from its
00:45 final assembly line in Seville by 2025.
00:49 As per reports, the subsequent 40 aircraft will be manufactured and assembled by Tata
00:53 Advanced Systems or TASL in India as part of an industrial partnership between the two
00:58 companies.
00:59 The production of components of these aircraft has already started in the main Constituent
01:04 Assembly or MCA facility in Hyderabad.
01:07 These parts will be shipped to the final assembly line or FAL in Vadodara, which is expected
01:11 to be operational by November 2024.
01:14 In October of last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the manufacturing
01:19 facility for 295 planes in Vadodara.
01:22 It will be the first military aircraft to be manufactured in India by a private consortium.
01:28 Reports revealed that the IAF is procuring the C-295 aircraft to replace its fleet of
01:33 aging Avro 748 planes that entered service over six decades back.
01:39 According to reports, the C-295 is known to be a superior aircraft used for tactical transport
01:44 of up to 71 troops or 50 paratroopers and for logistic operations to locations that
01:50 are not accessible to current heavier aircraft.
01:53 The aircraft can airdrop paratroops and loads and also be used for casualty or medical evacuation.
01:59 It is capable of performing special missions as well as disaster response and maritime
02:03 patrol duties.
