Transcript
00:00 Okay, so you are Jeffrey, the gallery owner of Capsule Gallery.
00:07 Yes, Capsule Gallery.
00:08 And it's New York based?
00:10 We're in New York in Chelsea.
00:12 We tend to show emerging young artists or even older artists.
00:18 Heavy influence of Japanese artists as well.
00:24 Shinichiro Kitaura.
00:30 What would you like to know about us?
00:32 You said you have Japanese artists?
00:37 Shinichiro Kitaura, Tsukasa Yokozawa, Take Kanayama.
00:44 Is this by coincidence?
00:48 I've been in Tokyo for five years.
00:50 I also think that what the West knows of Japanese art is all wrong.
00:56 Murakami, aka Murakami, just isn't what's happening in Japan.
01:01 Never has been, never will be.
01:03 That's very interesting because in the newspapers here, Murakami is always the Japanese.
01:09 Do you know Mark Kastabi?
01:12 He's the bad artist from the 90s.
01:15 Murakami is the same. He's the Japanese version.
01:18 Just two pieces.
01:20 Yoshitomo Nara. None of that has ever really happened in Japan.
01:24 It happens outside of Japan because foreigners are ignorant and can't argue any criticality with him.
01:32 But when he came to Yale to speak, they asked him a lot of hard questions and he just fell apart.
01:38 He said, "Oh, I don't know." He said it in Japanese.
01:42 So we asked him the questions in Japanese.
01:45 So you try to fix this image of Japanese art.
01:50 Or at least offer another view.
01:53 That's interesting.
01:55 The Japanese are very happy. Majima also.
01:59 So on your website, we can certainly see the artists you present?
02:04 Yes. We have a few more than on our website.
02:08 He'll be having a show with us next month.
02:11 Very good. So we will certainly put a link on our website to your website.
02:17 So everyone can have a look at it.
02:20 Great.
02:22 Did you have already time to visit Zurich, the city?
02:25 Yesterday.
02:27 Yesterday?
02:28 It's my first time here. I usually go to Turkey.
02:30 Okay. And did you like what you saw?
02:33 So far. It's a little small.
02:36 I can understand.
02:38 I work in Turkey, so everything is small.
02:41 Of course. It's not for us, too.
02:44 (audience laughing)
