Cape Cod is drying out after drenching rain, rough surf and wind gusts that topped 60 miles per hour on Sept. 16.
Transcript
00:00 Lee brought howling winds, rough surf and blowing sand to beaches across Cape Cod.
00:06 This is just so exciting to come down here and see them.
00:10 Gusty winds brought down tree limbs and power lines, leaving families in the dark in Brewster.
00:16 A tree fell on a police cruiser in Cohasset. The officer is okay.
00:21 Red flags were flapping in the wind across Chatham.
00:25 This is absolutely why we live on Cape Cod. I know it's damaging, but this is nature at its best. I mean, it's amazing.
00:34 Despite warnings to stay away, a few kite surfers took advantage of the wind and waves.
00:39 They have nerves of steel. I mean, I'm afraid for them just watching them.
00:45 Many in New England have been glued to the forecast for more than a week,
00:49 and are grateful that Lee stayed far enough offshore to keep damaging wind and waves away from Cape Cod.
00:56 I thought that my mom was just being dramatic. And then when I watched it, I was like, oh my goodness, let's, we live right on the water.
01:02 So we're like, we've got to clean up the beach. We've got to do everything.
01:05 It's not as bad as we thought it was going to be, which we like, obviously.
01:10 The rain and wind from Lee are long gone, but people are still being warned to stay out of the water.
01:16 There's rough surf and a dangerous rip current.
01:19 You could definitely feel the pressure of the water when you were out there trying to pull you back out.
01:25 For AccuWeather, I'm Bill Waddell.
