00:00 On Saturday the second final day of the summit at the G77 in China takes place at the Havana
00:17 Convention Center in Cuba.
00:28 Ecuador's National Literary Council sent 95 technical kits to three special constituencies
00:33 abroad to support the October 15 elections in those areas.
00:40 An occupied Israeli forces carried out a series of attacks on Northern Gaza on Friday night
00:45 and early Saturday morning.
00:52 Hello and welcome to Frontier South.
00:54 I'm Ana Rosa Val from the Television Studios in Havana, Cuba, we begin with the news.
01:13 On Saturday the second final day of the summit at the G77 in China takes place at the Havana
01:18 Convention Center in Cuba.
01:21 This meeting made significant progress in the construction of a space for reaching agreements
01:25 on historical demands, such as the need for a new international economic order, the projection
01:30 of a coherence measure against countries, as well as situations related to the concentration
01:35 of wealth or the growth of poverty, with a safe vision.
01:39 The adoption of final documents focused on the global challenges in science, technology
01:44 and innovation will seal Saturday's convention in Havana.
01:48 Several presidents, including the President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, are
01:53 scheduled to appear on this last day, in addition to the parallel program of the guests invited
01:58 to the meeting.
02:03 The Prime Minister of National Security and Public Administration and Minister of Finance,
02:08 Economic Affairs and Investment, Barbados, MIA and Moremokli, made a strong reference
02:13 in his speech to the use of technology as well as those who use and control them.
02:19 There is no doubt my friends that the world in which we live is experiencing unprecedented
02:23 crises, multiple.
02:24 And it has done so at a time when mankind has attained more scientific, engineering
02:30 and technological progress than at any other time in history.
02:36 The difficulty is that, like with all else, inventions can be used either for noble causes
02:43 or wicked purposes.
02:45 This means two things.
02:47 First, our awareness and alertness must be constant.
02:52 And secondly, it does matter, as we heard from my dear brother Prime Minister González
02:57 this morning, who owns and who controls the technology.
03:02 So why must we be alert now?
03:05 Because like many other temptations from time immemorial, our reliance on things that allow
03:11 us great convenience and happiness cause us to be easy prey.
03:16 Easy prey if we do not remember our purpose and our mission.
03:22 For his part, the Prime Minister of Saint Vincent of the Grenadines and President-elect
03:26 Ralph González insisted on the subject at the summit and emphasized on the need for
03:31 solidarity among each of our nations.
03:35 In everything but the subject today of this conference, of this summit, science, technology
03:46 and innovation.
03:49 And it's not isolated, this and the global digital compact, not isolated from the sustainable
03:58 development goals.
04:00 And climate finance and financing for development and the reform of the international financial
04:08 institutions and of the United Nations Security Council and for reparations for native genocide
04:14 and the enslavement of African bodies.
04:18 All of these matters, though they are different and segmentalized, they constitute, in my
04:30 view, a composite whole.
04:35 And it is in that frame that I urge we address our subject always in solidarity with one
04:49 another.
04:50 Bolivian Vice President David Chagawanka, on the other hand, blamed capitalism for the
04:58 present poverty of the world and said that the welfare they are demanding is not of the
05:03 Western civilization but one based on the people's own roots and culture of life.
05:10 The right to welfare that we demand for our countries is in no way the development of
05:21 the Western civilization that has endangered the planet and Mother Earth.
05:29 We cannot keep following the Western capitalist path that is to blame for the poverty in the
05:39 world.
05:40 It's time to build and rebuild our own path based on our roots, values and codes regarding
05:52 the culture of life.
05:56 Argentinean President Alberto Fernandez referred, among other things, to the difficulties faced
06:01 by global South countries to overcome the financial consequences of climate change and
06:06 natural catastrophes and how the international financial institutions controlled by the United
06:11 States made it even more difficult for those countries to recover.
06:17 For that situation to change, to be altered, the first thing to do is to change the financial
06:24 international system that keeps on working with the same logics.
06:31 Once again, you see the World Bank and the IMF applying the orthodox logics that took
06:40 us to this crisis state, this state of income concentration and the distribution of poverty
06:52 around the world.
06:54 How much more can we endure this?
06:56 How much more can we go on without changing this?
07:01 The President of the Palestinian State Mahmoud Abbas referred to the struggle of the Palestinian
07:06 people for its independence and its determination to overcome our struggles to achieve it.
07:13 The Palestinian people, with the support of the Group of 77 and China, which we had the
07:20 honor of chairing in 2019, are determined to overcome the historical injustice that
07:28 has titled their development and hindered their aspirations for a century.
07:38 As we speak, Israel's policies and practices seek to entrench its settler colonial occupation.
07:49 And impose the reality of apartheid, which must not be tolerated.
07:58 Ethiopia's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dimeki Mekonnen, spoke
08:06 about how coercive measures hinder the potential to develop technology and the economy.
08:12 Science, technology and innovation remain crucial to speeding up economic transformation
08:19 and addressing underdevelopment.
08:22 Unfortunately, our potential is constrained by limited access to scientific knowledge
08:29 and technology.
08:31 As historical disparity in innovative capacity hampers the attainment of the sustainable
08:38 development goals, Ethiopia calls for the genuine reform of global institutions to accommodate
08:47 inclusive decision-making opportunities that prioritize the interests of the global South.
08:57 On top of this, unilateral sanctions and coercive economic measures violating the United Nations
09:05 principles and international law affect progress in science, technology and economic development.
09:14 Ethiopia rejects any unilateral sanctions and coercive economic measures imposed upon
09:21 developing countries and calls for their removal as a gesture of goodwill for global harmony.
09:30 Let's take a short break.

09:42 Global Studies coming up, stay with us.
10:05 Welcome back.
10:06 The first day of the high-level discussions of the Group 77 and China summits concluded
10:11 in Havana, which focused on the progress towards a united approach of the countries of the
10:16 global South.
10:18 More details with our correspondent Gladys Quesada.
10:26 This September 15th, Havana gathered the leaders of the global South as leaders of underdeveloped
10:31 countries as well as of nations that did not abide by the hegemonic rules, look for consensus,
10:37 tactics and strategies with the purpose of outlining a guide for the action of the countries
10:42 of the South and enhanced South-South cooperation under the banner of technology, science and
10:48 innovation.
10:49 The day began with the official welcoming ceremony by the host president, Miguel Diaz-Canel,
10:54 to representatives of the over 130 countries attending the summit.
11:04 The peoples of the South are the ones that have more poverty, hunger, misery, death,
11:11 poor, curable diseases, illiteracy, human displacements and other consequences of underdevelopment.
11:19 Many of our nations are cold, poor, when in fact they should be cold and poverty nations.
11:28 And we have to revert that condition in which we have been stuck as a result of colonial
11:37 centuries of dependence because the South can no longer cope with these unfortunate
11:44 issues.
11:45 Those who raise cities out of the blood and sweat of the nations of the South are suffering
11:52 already and they will suffer more in the future the consequence of economic imbalances that
11:58 were the result of plunder.
12:00 We are traveling on the same boat, although some are VIP passengers and others are their
12:07 servants.
12:09 In his speech, United Nations Secretary General AntĂłnio Guterres referred to the centuries
12:14 of injustice and neglect of the countries of the South.
12:18 Richer countries who are with COVID vaccines while the pandemic run rampant in the global
12:24 South.
12:29 And I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Cuba for the successful development
12:33 in the vaccines.
12:34 Vaccines have been used not only in the people of Cuba, but also Cuba have been generous
12:40 enough to use these vaccines in other peoples which were victims of inequality to international
12:48 access to the vaccines.
12:52 For his part, Ziliu, the representative of China, stressed the importance of rethinking
12:57 the global dynamics and assured that China will always be a friend of the global South
13:02 and the G77.
13:06 We must call on the entire international community to place development front and center on the
13:12 international agenda.
13:13 And we must urge developed countries to deliver on their development assistance commitments.
13:19 We must strengthen the voice and representation of developing countries in global governance
13:23 based on the principles of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits.
13:35 Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro Morales called for a higher level of practical cooperation
13:39 in science and technology.
13:41 The 21st century, he said, must be the century of the countries of the South.
13:51 This is our house.
13:54 This is our family.
13:56 This is a space where we are all equal, where nobody tries to impose or nominate or plunder
14:06 or exclude anybody or humiliate.
14:11 This is a great, big African, Asian, Latin American, Caribbean family.
14:18 The South countries, the G77 will be celebrating its 60th anniversary, and later on, the fact
14:31 that China joined us.
14:34 Next year, we will have the summit in Uganda.
14:39 We wish Uganda all success in the holding of that significant summit.
14:48 And the Prime Minister of Barbados emphasized education as a tool to face the challenges
14:53 of the future and said that commitments are empty promises if there is no re-election.
15:01 There is no doubt, my friends, that the world in which we live is experiencing unprecedented
15:05 crises, multiple.
15:06 And it has done so at a time when mankind has attained more scientific, engineering,
15:13 and technological progress than at any other time in history.
15:18 The difficulty is that, like with all else, inventions can be used either for noble causes
15:25 or wicked purposes.
15:27 This means two things.
15:29 First, our awareness and alertness must be constant.
15:34 And secondly, it does matter, as we heard from my dear brother, Prime Minister Gonzalez,
15:39 this morning, who owns and who controls the technology.
15:44 So why must we be alert now?
15:47 Because like many other temptations from time immemorial, our reliance on things that allow
15:53 us great convenience and happiness cause us to be easy prey.
15:58 We pray if we do not remember our purpose and our mission.
16:05 Until this September 16th, the more than 100 high-level delegations participated in the
16:10 summit of the Group of 77 in China in Havana will be debating to approve a final declaration
16:16 already agreed upon and described as progressive and as of universal character with a positive
16:23 and constructive tone firmly attached to the defense of the right to the development.

16:49 Final short break, don't go away.
16:51 And we're set at the summit venue with our colleague Gladys Quezada, who has the latest
17:16 on today's paramount event.
17:18 Hello Gladys.
17:19 Hello, Adaneb.
17:20 And yes, we stay here in the briefing room of the G77 China Summit reporting for you
17:28 all the latest details, the updates and the events.
17:32 Yesterday was the first session, the first day of debates and the first day of interventions
17:37 and remarks by the presidents and other high top officials from every country.
17:42 Yesterday was an unusual day because the presidents and the speakers gone or went nonstop until
17:48 the official dinner at 8 p.m.
17:51 So the session had no recess, had no time for a stop in their sessions and the working.
17:58 Also yesterday had some highlights and had some parliament moments that I wanted to resume
18:04 for you and I wanted to highlight and stress for you.
18:08 Yesterday the president of Colombia, Gustavo Pedro, and the foreign minister of Mexico,
18:12 Alicia Arcena, both of them voiced their will to rejoin the talks with the G77 regarding
18:19 their membership to the bloc and regarding their participation in the global south as
18:23 a unity and as an association.
18:26 Also yesterday the historical leader of the revolution in Cuba, Raul Castro Ruz, met with
18:31 some of the presidents and the representatives and he received them at the Palace of the
18:35 Revolution that was one of the main highlights because that's one of the main events aside
18:41 or parallel to the summit.
18:43 Also as we have in knowledge and we have into account, yesterday there were 49 speakers
18:50 who took the floor at the summit to address the Quora and the fora there, but tomorrow
18:57 I beg your pardon, today we will have other 49 speakers that will cover the 114 delegations
19:05 because out of those, 98 asked the floor for yesterday and today.
19:11 So we are expecting other interventions and as yesterday we had the interventions or the
19:18 addresses of Argentina, of Namibia, of Bongo, of other countries and presidents.
19:26 Today we are expecting St. Kitts and Nevis, Antigua and Barbuda, Brazil, Trinidad and
19:32 Tobago, South Africa, Niger, Chile, Syria, Mali, India, Honduras, Haiti, Morocco and
19:39 Libya.
19:40 And also maybe we will listen to the addresses and the remarks of Guatemala, Ecuador, Uruguay
19:47 and Peru.
19:48 So today is expected a grand or a large presence from Latin American speakers and also from
19:54 Africa.
19:55 Those are two regions that are strongholds of the global south as Africa is the newest
20:01 or is the one that is shifting the reality, shifting the economic and geopolitical situation
20:07 and Latin America as a bastion of resources and as a bastion of change to another models
20:13 and to another paradigms.
20:16 So far this is what I can tell you, this is all the details and advances for today, but
20:20 in further missions I will be with you to give you all the resumes, all the summarizes
20:26 and all the details regarding this summit that is underway in Havana, Cuba, the capital
20:32 today of the global south.
20:34 To you.
20:36 Thank you Gladys Quezada for reporting us from the summit.
20:43 Thanks to you, Are.
20:46 Okay.
20:48 Ecuador's National Electoral Council, CNN, sends notifications to the special constituencies
20:53 abroad.
20:54 They support the October 15 elections in those areas.
20:57 The gifts include laptops, scanners, cables and other technical resources which will be
21:02 tested during the mock election on October 1st.
21:05 Last August 20, only 51,000 Ecuadorians of the 100 and 200,000 registered abroad were
21:12 able to exercise their right to vote as the technical equipment presented many failures.
21:18 In addition to determining the pending assembly members, Ecuadorians inside and outside the
21:23 country will elect the next president of the nation on October 15.
21:34 Israeli forces carried out a series of attacks on North Gaza on Friday night and early Saturday
21:39 morning.
21:41 The attack by the Yoruban forces began with the repression of the Palestinian fratres
21:45 in support of the Holy Al-Qaeda mosque and the Palestinian prisoners.
21:50 The citizens of Qarni who participated in the mobilization were attacked with bullets
21:55 and tear gas.
21:56 As a result of this attack, the Ministry of Health confirmed that 12 Palestinian citizens
22:01 were wounded by bullets.
22:03 Later, the occupying troops attacked with drones in north of the Strip and destroyed
22:08 an observation post of the Islamic resistance movement Hamas.
