00:00 I'm Laurie Blake, this is the WrestleTalk News and on Fridays we wear pink.
00:11 Our top story is admittedly not the cheeriest of topics for a day that is usually the most
00:15 exciting of the week, as you know, the weekend.
00:18 Thank god it's Friday and all that.
00:19 But it feels like Black Friday because there is news of some major WWE roster and staff
00:24 cuts coming very soon.
00:26 Yes, with WWE's purchase by the Endeavor Overlords and the merger with UFC now complete,
00:31 it had been feared that layoffs could also be on the cards.
00:35 We already saw that within a WWE boardroom just a day following the launch of TKO as
00:40 WWE's Chief Financial Officer Frank Riddick departed the company on Wednesday.
00:45 While it was not known whether this was a mutual parting of ways, it did potentially
00:49 signify that there was some cause for some fear over job security.
00:53 On Wrestling Observer Radio Dave Meltzer noted that more layoffs were coming and WWE staff
00:58 were "very scared", noting that WWE were set to cut back on employees and on certain
01:03 expenses.
01:05 And yet it turns out that this is in fact what is happening, as in an internal WWE email
01:09 reported by PWInsider, WWE CEO Nick Khan informed employees yesterday that workforce reductions
01:16 would be taking place today, September 15th.
01:20 And no, it's not a honey I shrunk the kids kind of moment.
01:22 Khan noted that those let go would be informed of the news by WWE's Human Resources team
01:27 where severance packages would be discussed.
01:29 Khan also asked all employees to work remotely today in order to ensure all conversations
01:35 with those affected are handled privately and respectfully.
01:38 And while this sucks, reports of layoffs following the WWE/UFC merger had been circulating for
01:45 a while now.
01:46 What was less certain was how TKO would affect existing WWE talent.
01:50 It could be set for our first lot of talent releases in quite some time.
01:55 Well, unfortunately that also seems quite likely.
01:59 When enquiring about the cuts to WWE's workforce, House of Wrestling asked the WWE source whether
02:04 these cuts would be felt in the locker room as well, to which they were told that "major
02:10 cuts" would be coming to the WWE and NXT rosters.
02:14 While it was not confirmed that these would also be coming today, the source did say that
02:17 they had been planned for quite some time.
02:21 So brace yourselves I guess.
02:23 While not confirmed, one source also told House of Wrestling that WWE could space out
02:27 the staff and talent cuts for optics reasons to avoid the overwhelming negative press of
02:33 doing it all at once.
02:34 However that is speculation, it could still happen altogether.
02:38 They might not mind.
02:41 The winds of change are blowing in WWE, but could these changes factor into a brand new
02:46 feel for WWE's product under the TKO umbrella?
02:50 According to BWE on Twitter, WWE may be set to revamp many aspects of the current roster,
02:56 particularly in regards to new title schemes, which entails new names, weight classes and
03:03 a trios division.
03:05 While weight classes would potentially be the most striking change, unless we're forgetting
03:08 about 205 Live, we've all forgotten about 205 Live, and one that would bring WWE closer
03:13 to that of their new sibling UFC.
03:15 The addition of a trios division and title belts has been one that fans have called on
03:19 WWE adding for some time.
03:21 It remains to be seen if all of this will happen, but if believed we could be seeing
03:28 a much different WWE product under Endeavor than we had initially been expecting.
03:33 Despite the news suggesting that talent cuts are coming in the near future, as of right
03:38 now there are only two stars set to officially depart from WWE, that being NXT stars The
03:43 Dyad, Jagger Reed and Rip Fowler of the Schism faction.
03:48 If you've been keeping up with the news this is going to come as no massive shock,
03:52 as it's been publicly stated by both men that they would not be renewing their deals
03:56 once they expired in October.
03:58 There were rumours that they had asked for their WWE release as well.
04:02 The former Grizzled Young Veterans had been requesting their release back in April, however
04:11 they were both turned down, leading to the pair continuing to wrestle on NXT throughout
04:15 the year as generic British baddies.
04:18 However despite us not being in October quite yet, the pair do seem to have been written
04:22 off TV courtesy of a vignette involving Schisms, Eva and Joe Gacy on NXT.
04:27 This rubber stamp on Fowler and Reed's time in WWE was confirmed by Dave Meltzer on Wrestling
04:32 Observer Radio, who said "Rip Fowler and Jagger Reed are gone.
04:37 Their contract is up.
04:38 I thought there was going to be some angle or something, but they're just gone.
04:41 Good for them.
04:42 Back to Grizzled Young Veterans."
04:44 Moving away from WWE departures now and onto what could be the company's biggest arrival
04:52 of 2023, that being the former AEW TBS Champion Jade Cargill.
04:58 The news of Cargill's impending departure from Tony Khan's company was shocking on
05:02 a few levels.
05:03 First of all, she had only just returned to TV after a three month hiatus on last week's
05:08 collision.
05:09 And secondly, a week prior to that she had said the following when discussing Tony Khan
05:13 and AEW on the Women's Wrestling Talk Podcast.
05:16 "There's no other place I would want to be.
05:19 He doesn't look at me as a number.
05:20 He looks at me like a human being and he knows my journey and he understands my purpose in
05:25 the wrestling community and what I want to achieve and I don't think you can beat that."
05:29 Does any of that suggest the move to WWE just weeks later?
05:34 I don't think it does.
05:36 In the latest update it has been revealed that Cargill to WWE could be happening in
05:40 the next few weeks.
05:42 PWInsider have revealed that Cargill's AEW deal is up as soon as next week, with Fightful
05:47 Select noting that sources within WWE believe that Cargill's contract could be structured
05:52 in a way that she could sign with WWE imminently.
05:56 Interestingly, according to Fightful some top stars in WWE had heard that Cargill could
06:00 be hopping the fence backstage at this week's Raw before any news on this situation actually
06:05 broke.
06:06 But why oh why is Cargill doing this I hear you ask?
06:09 Pete ask it.
06:10 Pete ask why oh why is Cargill doing this.
06:15 Good you asked, I've got the answer, it's just up here.
06:18 Especially when you read the above comments.
06:20 I don't know, I'm doing a bit and it didn't work.
06:23 Is it about the money?
06:25 The paper?
06:26 The moolah?
06:27 Apparently not as a source told Fightful that Cargill's decision is not financially
06:32 motivated.
06:33 In fact after her final AEW match with Chris Statlander on Wednesday's Rampage taping,
06:40 a reportedly teary eyed Cargill had perhaps suggested that a WWE move may not be a sure
06:47 thing.
06:48 Because yes, Jade had reportedly instead told people that she may just be taking some time
06:52 to focus on her family and/or the Texas Smoke, the softball team that she and husband MLB
06:58 player Brandon Phillips own.
06:59 Interestingly, Wrestling Inc's Raj Giri has stated on Twitter that contrary to reports
07:03 he had heard Cargill had re-signed with AEW.
07:06 While Fightful Select noted that an option to extend Cargill's AEW deal was potentially
07:10 on the table, however this hasn't been confirmed and it's unclear on what side this option
07:16 lays or now lied.
07:21 Now as for WWE's plans for Cargill, she did in fact join and perhaps surprisingly
07:25 they may not volvomassive splash on the main roster right away.
07:28 As according to PWInsider, some within AEW believe that Jade would be heading to NXT
07:33 upon signing with WWE instead.
07:36 A damning indictment of her skills.
07:38 But how would you fantasy book the WWE debut of Jade Cargill?
07:42 Let us know in the comments down below.
07:44 So with all the talk of WWE departures and arrivals today, what of a man that falls somewhere
07:49 in the middle of employed and not employed.
07:52 Yes for the first time in literally forever we've got an update on the drifter, the
07:56 Zeke Freak.
07:57 Ladies and gentlemen, it's Elias.
08:03 While many would be forgiven for forgetting about poor old Elias due to his lack of screen
08:07 time in 2023, last appearing on the May 15th edition of Raw, he is still in WWE.
08:14 So says the roster page.
08:16 However a new update has cast some doubt over his status as BWE on Twitter has stated that
08:21 the 35 year old is currently working without a professional contract but is in fact still
08:28 in the company.
08:30 Whatever that mean.
08:31 What does that mean?
08:32 He's not working is he?
08:33 If he's not got a contract and he's not actually on the show, he's not working.
08:36 That's not work.
08:37 So there's been little news on the Elias front in quite some time with no reason known
08:42 as to why he's been off TV for so many months.
08:45 However he did reappear on Instagram recently to celebrate that he had been recently baptised
08:49 in the River Jordan in Israel.
08:51 So at least it seems like he's doing well in his time away from our screens.
08:54 While Elias' contract status is a big old question mark, one contract we do have more
08:59 clarity on is that of the Scottish Warrior Drew McIntyre.
09:03 Clarity that is expiring soon.
09:06 Real soon.
09:07 Reports have circulated all year that McIntyre and WWE were yet to agree to a new contract
09:11 despite the former two-time WWE Champion's deal running out early next year according
09:16 to Dave Meltzer.
09:17 While Drew did recently say in an interview with the Hindustan Times that he doesn't
09:21 plan on being anywhere else, that is pretty much what Cargill said about not leaving AEW
09:29 for WWE.
09:30 Don't feed me your lies wrestlers.
09:31 Don't feed me your lies.
09:32 I can see right through them.
09:35 But hey, maybe Drew wasn't lying.
09:37 Because according to BWE McIntyre will soon be re-signing with WWE.
09:41 Hopefully this impending new deal can coincide with a good old heel turn that seems to be
09:46 on the horizon.
09:47 He's been a bit more edgy recently hasn't he?
09:51 If a heel turn does come for Drew it would almost certainly come at the expense of his
09:56 Glasbro Matt Riddle.
09:58 Although Riddle would need to be present on WWE TV for that to happen, something he was
10:03 very much not this Monday on Raw.
10:06 The official line on Riddle's absence from Raw was that he was out with a medical issue,
10:10 or at least that's what WWE told the roster according to PWInsider.
10:14 However, given that Riddle was also involved in an incident at JFK International Airport
10:19 just a day prior in which he had alleged that he had been sexually assaulted by a police
10:23 officer, the timing certainly raised some eyebrows.
10:27 However according to Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer, Riddle was in fact suffering
10:29 from a double ear infection and bronchitis, so maybe the timing might have been unfortunate.
10:34 It seems that despite everything going on with the incident, Riddle's health, PWInsider
10:38 is now reporting that he is expected back on WWE TV for the September 18th edition of
10:44 Raw.
10:45 Speaking of Riddle and McIntyre, they like every other wrestler on the planet were undoubtedly
10:49 waiting with bated breath for this year's 2023 PWI 500 list that was released yesterday.
10:56 While many dispute the value of the list and likely don't care all that much, it does
11:00 make for some interesting reading and sparks a fun little debate.
11:03 Did I say fun debate?
11:05 I meant accusations of criminal bias.
11:08 Because yes, upon seeing the list, the sister of one Cody Rhodes was not best pleased with
11:13 her brother's ranking of 10th.
11:15 Teal tweeted or...
11:16 Xed, what are we calling them now?
11:19 Do you know what time their stand-up set starts?
11:21 Because these jokes.
11:22 Should we then go a step further claiming that PWI carries biases against the Rhodes
11:27 family saying "Someone at PWI has a beef with someone in our family and it's really
11:32 ugly on their end, so that's why I care.
11:35 They are lucky certain people take the high road, because it's cancellable.
11:39 He was the 10th best wrestler in the world."
11:42 I think that's fair.
11:45 Cody placed behind the likes of Impact's Josh Alexander in 9th, AEW's Orange Cassidy
11:50 in 8th, NJPW's Kazuchika Okada in 7th and AAA's El Hijo Del Valkingo in 6th.
11:57 Following those names was AEW World Champion MJF in 5th, Intercontinental Champion from
12:00 WWE Gunther in 4th and an all Shield affair at the top with Jon Moxley placed 3rd, Roman
12:05 Reigns in 2nd and Seth Rollins landing it numero uno.
12:10 I can't do Spanish.
12:12 In celebration of the former Hound of Justice taking top honours, the World Heavyweight
12:15 Champion will post a picture to X of that classic Shield fist bump.
12:20 How lovely.
12:21 What a lovely way for the news to end for a change.
12:24 Happy Friday.
12:25 Cody Rhodes was robbed.
12:27 He was robbed.
12:28 What a dishonour to his family.
12:31 10th best wrestler in the world.
12:33 10th.
12:34 Can you believe it?
12:37 What an insult to his legacy.
12:39 10th.
