Two women who were arrested at a vigil for murder victim Sarah Everard have been paid compensation by the Metropolitan Police. Patsy Stevenson and Dania Al-Obeid were detained at the event on Clapham Common in March 2021. The Met was criticised for its heavy handling of the vigil, which took place amid ongoing Covid restrictions. The London force have acknowledged the pair’s motivations for attending the vigil, but added that their officers "acted in good faith.” Report by Jonesia. 00:36 - I in no way have experienced police brutality
00:38 to the extent that some other people have,
00:40 but it was a scary experience.
00:43 And like I said, I was covered in bruises afterwards.
00:46 I didn't sleep or eat for ages, had nightmares about it.
00:49 And I have borderline personality disorder,
00:52 so it was very hard to control those emotions as well.
00:55 I was really terrified.
00:58 - It reminded me of when I almost lost my life to abuse
01:03 and what happened afterwards,
01:05 which I was silenced and I was blamed.
01:09 It was kind of like, how dare you speak out?
01:12 How dare you be angry at our actions?
01:17 You know, being handcuffed, being arrested,
01:20 having comments saying, doubting our motivations for going,
01:23 saying we hijacked the vigil.
