00:38 their loved ones.
00:41 Hello from the headquarters of Telesudy English in Havana, Cuba.
00:47 This is From the South.
00:49 I'm Yaren Corglades-Quesada and these are the news.
00:52 The President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, offered a press conference from Beijing
00:56 on Thursday, in which he made the balance of his official tour of China that lasted
01:01 almost a week.
01:03 The Venezuelan head of state emphasized that with the meeting he held with his Chinese
01:06 counterpart Xi Jinping, the bilateral relationship was elevated to a foolproof and all-weather
01:12 strategic partnership.
01:14 Within this framework, a total of 31 cooperation agreements were signed during the 17th meeting
01:20 of the China-Venezuela High-Level Commission.
01:22 The agreements include areas such as Belt and Road, Economy and Trade, Education, Tourism,
01:28 Science and Technology, Health, Airspace and Civil Aviation, among others.
01:37 The Venezuelan President highlighted the Asian giant's solidarity with Venezuela by condemning
01:41 the unilateral sanctions and sending medicines during the COVID-19 pandemic.
01:46 "We will always remember the support of China, condemning the criminal sanctions against
01:55 Venezuela.
01:58 Facing those sanctions, and we will always remember for all times the solidarity of China
02:04 so that medicines, antivirals and vaccines could reach Venezuela in the worst moment
02:09 of the COVID-19."
02:13 And the President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, affirmed that together with the Chinese
02:17 government they agreed to work within the framework of the United Nations to condemn
02:22 the unilateral coercive measures used by the United States and its allies.
02:28 "To continue denouncing within the framework of the UN sanctions, blockades, financial,
02:37 commercial and economic persecution, damages, crimes against humanity, against people through
02:44 economic warfare, so we have ratified the strengthening of the Group of Defenders of
02:50 the United Nations Charter between China and Venezuela, and to make it the central element
02:55 of strategy so that sooner rather than later the UN condemns and rebars the systems of
03:02 unilateral coercive measures."
03:04 Afterwards, the President, Nicolás Maduro Moros, held a meeting with the Assembly of
03:08 the National People's Power of China to strengthen cooperation and friendship ties with the Asian
03:14 giant.
03:15 The Venezuelan President, Nicolás Maduro Moros, described as successful and productive
03:19 the meeting with representatives of the public powers in China and the President of the Standing
03:24 Committee of the Assembly, Zhao Lijian.
03:27 Likewise, the head of the Beijing Parliament highlighted the historical ties of friendship
03:31 between Venezuela and China and saluted the efforts of the Venezuelan head of state in
03:36 firmly promoting the friendly relations between both countries for a long time.
03:41 Meanwhile, the Venezuelan leader also met with the Prime Minister of the Republic of
03:45 China, Li Jian, a strategic meeting aimed at consolidating the friendship between both
03:50 countries.
03:51 "I am happy to be in this Assembly.
03:59 I have visited on many occasions as a deputy, as President of the National Assembly of Venezuela
04:06 and as President of the Republic, because I appreciate the work you do for the development
04:11 of China, for the strengthening of China, and I appreciate the friendship we have cultivated
04:16 between the National People's Assembly of China and the National Assembly of Venezuela.
04:23 I want to convey to you a message of solidarity greetings from the President of the National
04:28 Assembly of Venezuela, Comrade Jorge Rodriguez, and the entire legislative body of the country.
04:35 This visit may have been extraordinary."
04:40 In this context, the Venezuelan popular leader also described his tour of Asia as historic
04:45 due to the 31 agreements reached with the Asian giant.
04:50 "All the working days, all the agreements, all the plans, all the documents approved
04:58 and signed in Shenzhen, in Shanghai, in Shandong.
05:03 We arrived in Shenzhen in the middle of a storm.
05:06 We landed in the middle of a heavy rain, and a truly historic tour began.
05:11 And then our arrival in Beijing, the working days, the signing of 31 agreements."
05:18 For her part, on Thursday, the Executive Vice President of Venezuela, Delsi Rodriguez, visited
05:23 the Chinese company CITIC Construction Group.
05:27 Venezuela strengthens cooperation with China in housing construction as part of the bilateral
05:32 agreements signed by both presidents in recent days.
05:35 The Vice President's visit preceded that of the President of the Nation, signing 31 cooperation
05:40 agreements in infrastructure, technology, education, and the Belt and Road Initiative.
05:46 CITIC Group is a Chinese construction company aimed at generating sustainable shareholder
05:51 value.
05:52 This visit takes place in the context of the historic visit of President Nicolás Madromoros
05:56 to the Asian giant.

06:13 Thanks for watching.
06:41 Welcome back.
06:46 Heads of state and government from the global south continue to arrive in Cuba as Havana
06:51 hosts the G77+ China Summit.
06:54 After the arrival of the President of Laos, Thon-Luen Sisolith, Cuban Head of State Miguel
07:00 DĂaz-Canel held talks with his counterpart to strengthen political dialogue and party
07:05 ties.
07:06 DĂaz-Canel also received Iran's Vice President for Science, Technology and Economic Affairs,
07:11 the Presidents of Palestine and South Africa, as well as government authorities from Nepal.
07:16 The G77+ China Summit will be held on September 15th and 16th under the theme "Decarving
07:23 Challenges of Development, the Role of Science, Technology and Innovation."
07:32 And how paramount is the G77+ China Summit to be held in Havana?
07:37 What is the world going through today?
07:39 What is the current world economic situation like and what are its prospects?
07:44 These answers and the answers to these questions in the following work by our correspondent
07:49 in Havana, Fabiola LĂłpez.
07:50 In the voice of one of Cuba's most prominent figures on economic matters, José Luis Rodríguez,
07:57 the world is on the verge of an outbreak of the crisis the planet is experiencing today.
08:02 The crisis hikes due to product shortage, broken trade links, the paralysis of 30% of
08:07 the world's wheat supply due to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the forecast of
08:12 32.4% of growth of the world economy and the deaths of the underdeveloped world exceeding
08:19 9 trillion US dollars are only some of the features of the dire economic situation that
08:25 humanity is experiencing.
08:27 In the next five years, growth will not exceed 3%, and this logically implies, in a different
08:33 way in the world, falls in production, increasing social issues.
08:37 There are very serious problems with migration in the world today, which is a factor that
08:41 has gained enormous strength, especially since the pandemic.
08:44 In other words, factors that worsen an already existing crisis.
08:49 And given this situation, certain measures must be adopted, which is why the summit is
08:53 so important.
08:54 At the recently concluded 15th Summit of the BRICS, the Cuban president warned that the
08:59 Group of 77 and China have a responsibility to advocate for a change in the current order.
09:05 It is not an option, said the Cuban leader, it is the only alternative.
09:10 It has been a historic demand of the G77 and also the BRICS to undertake a real transformation
09:16 of the international financial architecture, which is today deeply unjust, outdated and
09:21 dysfunctional.
09:22 Twenty-three years ago, at the South Summit held in Havana, the historic leader of the
09:29 Cuban Revolution warned about the challenges of that time, which have now worsened.
09:37 For the Group of 77, the present time cannot be one of pleading to developed countries,
09:41 nor of submission, defeatism or internal divisions, but of rescuing our fighting spirit of unity
09:52 and cohesion around our demands.
10:00 We were promised 50 years ago that one day there would be no gap between developed and
10:04 underdeveloped countries.
10:05 We were promised bread and justice.
10:11 And today there is less and less bread and less and less justice.
10:16 However, in the face of such challenges in today's world, in the opinion of the expert
10:23 José Luis Rodríguez, there are solutions, but he warns that solutions can only be found
10:28 when there is unity.
10:30 Unity, he explains, can create the capacity to mobilize resources politically, socially
10:35 and economically to find alternatives.
10:38 There are solutions, and I believe that in the long or short term, socialism is the only
10:45 alternative.
10:47 The capitalist world does not offer solutions.
10:49 There is the Washington Consensus and all the effects of the peak of neoliberalism that
10:54 have led to many of the tragedies we have today, to realize that this system does not
10:59 work.
11:00 Or let's say it statistically, it works for 20 percent of humanity, the other 80 percent
11:05 is excluded.
11:06 The Cuban president said that the time for collective action is not tomorrow, it is now,
11:11 to move towards a further and more sustainable future.
11:15 Fabiola LĂłpez, Telesur, Havana.
11:20 Let's see other stories.
11:21 On Wednesday, Brazil's Supreme Federal Court began the first four criminal trials on the
11:25 defendants involved in the coup actions of January 8th of this year.
11:31 These are the first four Bolseroistas to be tried for their role in the invasion and looting
11:35 of the buildings of the three branches of government in Brazil.
11:39 The defendants, Aécio Lúcio Costa Pereira, Thiago de Aziz Mathara, Moazir José dos Santos
11:44 and Mateus Lima de Caravalho Lázaro, will answer for crimes such as unarmed criminal
11:50 association, violent abolition of the democratic rule of law and coup d'état.
11:55 The trial began with the presentation of the case by Minister Alexandre de Moraes.
12:04 On January 8th, 243 people were arrested in the act inside public buildings and in the
12:09 Three Powers Square.
12:11 On January 9th, 1,927 people were taken to the National Police Academy.
12:19 The criminal action engineered by the agents in which the defendants participated had the
12:23 nefarious motive of continuously preventing the regular exercise of constitutional powers
12:28 and provoking the deposition of the legitimately constituted government.
12:33 In Brazil, marches by indigenous women from several regions of the country continue, seeking
12:37 the demarcation and protection of their lands.
12:40 Under the slogan "Women, Biomes in Defense of Biodiversity through Ancestral Roots",
12:45 thousands of indigenous women mobilized in Brazil to defend their rights and demand the
12:50 demarcation of their lands and the end of illegal mining.
12:54 In this sense, next September 20th, the vote on the time frame will be taken up again at
12:59 the Supreme Court, a key trial for indigenous peoples and their ancestral territories.
13:07 In Peru, workers of the Administrative Services Contract Regime march on Wednesday to demand
13:12 labor improvements from the government.
13:15 Workers from different parts of the country gather at the San MartĂn Square in Lima,
13:19 the capital of Peru, from where they begin a march towards the National Congress to demand
13:24 from the government agencies and the Ministry of Finance a labor system with decent benefits
13:29 for all public employees.
13:31 The main demand for the workers is the payment of bonuses offered in the month of July, and
13:36 which they have not received so far.
13:44 We the state workers are in a national day of struggle, mainly to stop the abuses and
13:47 lies of the Minister of Economy and Finance.
13:53 One of the first lies is to have signed a collective agreement for a special bonus of
13:57 600 soles that should have been paid in July.
14:04 We are already at the end of September and he has not yet presented a supplementary credit
14:08 bill.
14:11 It lies upon lies.
14:13 He signs an agreement and makes public offers and does not fulfill them.
14:20 He signs the abuses of his officials against the right to collective bargaining that has
14:24 cost us 42 years to achieve.
14:28 In the United States, a federal judge blocked part of an order suspending the right to carry
14:33 guns in public in the Albuquerque metropolitan area in the state of New Mexico.
14:39 The measure partially reverses a public health order issued by New Mexico's governor, Michelle
14:43 Lujan, who based her decision on local violent crime statistics that have claimed the lives
14:49 of minors.
14:50 Federal Judge David Urias found that the governor was acting in good faith in trying
14:55 to prevent further fatalities, but could not confiscate the rights granted to citizens
14:59 by the Constitution.
15:01 The plaintiffs who brought the court ruling argue that the governor has other options
15:05 to address this issue.
15:08 We have a second short break coming up, but before we invite you to visit our YouTube

16:05 Welcome back.
16:07 In Libya, three days after the port city of Derna was practically wiped out by the storm
16:12 Daniel, the survivors of the catastrophe are looking for their loved ones.
16:17 Storm Daniel not only ravaged a sleeping city with all its fury, but also burst the dams
16:22 and the resulting floods engulfed everything in their path.
16:25 Many people lost dozens of family members in this catastrophe.
16:29 Islamic Relief warned late Wednesday that the figure is likely to double or even quadruple.
16:34 The Libyan Red Crescent said on Thursday morning that another 10,000 people are missing, a
16:40 figure that could be higher.
16:41 The storm affected both Greece and Libya.
16:44 In Greece, there were only six fatalities, while in Libya the death toll rose to 6,000
16:49 according to statements by the Islamic Relief's Deputy Director of Partner Development.
16:59 And Lebanon sent a military plane with humanitarian aid to Libya, departing from Marca military
17:03 airport in Amman.
17:04 A senior official said that his country's government remains in close cooperation with
17:09 the Libyan authorities.
17:10 Let's hear it.
17:13 We are in continuous communication with authorities there to assess their needs and to know whether
17:22 they need more aid.
17:26 We focused in this shipment on basic necessities, such as food and relief aid like tents, blankets
17:33 and whatever needed in such conditions, in addition to food parcels suitable for such
17:41 situations.
17:44 Italian military and firefighters load material, including inflatable boats, onto a plane at
17:50 Pisa airport before it heads to flood-hit Libya.
17:53 On Wednesday, the Italian defence ministry announced it will send a ship and two planes
17:58 to the North African country to deliver material and help rescue efforts following the catastrophic
18:03 floods that have left at least thousands dead and missing.
18:13 Iran and Iraq announced that the implementation of a security agreement reached to confront
18:17 terrorism will start on Friday.
18:19 The announcement was made by the diplomatic heads of both nations, who met this Wednesday
18:23 in Tehran.
18:24 Both the Iraqi Foreign Minister, Fouad Houssein, and his Iranian counterpart, Hossein Amir
18:29 Abdel-Hakim, spoke positively to the agreement, or of the agreement signed earlier this year,
18:35 to protect their common border, especially in the Kurdish region of northern Iraq.
18:39 The agreement comes after a series of attacks perpetrated by the Iran against Iraqi territory,
18:45 targeting armed groups sheltering on the other side of the border.
18:49 The agreement commits the states to disarm the insurgent groups and withdraw their bases.
18:54 The deployment of border guards to prevent infiltration of militants across the border,
18:59 and the handover to Iran of suspects wanted under the law.
19:08 We have received very good information about the elimination of terrorist groups from areas
19:14 near the borders of the Islamic Republic of Iran, their relocation deep into Iraqi territory
19:20 and the Kurdish region of the Republic of Iraq, and the efforts to disarm them and fully
19:26 implement the clauses of the security agreement between the two countries.
19:31 The next steps will be fully implemented in the coming days within the framework of the
19:38 security agreement.
19:40 Meanwhile, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fouad Houssein stressed the viability of dialogue as a means
19:46 of obtaining permits and consents in order to confront irregular groups that use the
19:51 border crossing.
19:52 The issue I want to emphasize is that the relations between the two countries are good,
20:04 and we hope that if there are some problems, they will be solved through dialogue and negotiations.
20:12 Sometimes we see that the sovereignty of Iraq, the Kurdistan region of Iraq, is threatened
20:19 with bombing or a military attack.
20:22 I think we should move away from these tools because we have other ways.
20:27 We have a way to talk and negotiate.
20:30 We have a security agreement.
20:33 In Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, at least 56 people are reported dead after a fire in
20:38 an apartment building.
20:39 The fire in the nine-story building killed at least 56 people, including four children,
20:45 while 37 others are being treated at a hospital.
20:48 The fire started around midnight on Wednesday and was extinguished in the early hours of
20:52 the morning.
20:53 Rescue operations continue throughout the day.
20:56 The injured suffered smoke inhalation and various injuries as they tried to flee the
21:00 flames.
21:01 So far, it is unknown what caused the fire.
21:04 However, authorities have detained the owner of the building to investigate whether safety
21:08 regulations were breached.
21:14 And we have come to the end of this news brief.
