00:00 What I found maybe most interesting of all,
00:03 because Sam, we did this on the show
00:04 when you sent it out on social media a couple of days ago,
00:07 not that FanDuel was the most downloaded sports betting app.
00:10 That's not a surprise.
00:11 My surprise was how close it was
00:14 with FanDuel and DraftKings.
00:16 And I wonder, Sam, what the crossover here is.
00:19 Like how many of that 300,000 people did both
00:23 at the same time?
00:24 I don't think we have data on that,
00:26 but to me, that's what stuck out the most
00:28 is that it was like within 8,000 people.
00:31 - Yeah, it would be great to have data on, you know,
00:33 how many people are signing up for multiple apps,
00:35 not just enticed by one app.
00:37 But yeah, as you alluded to,
00:38 FanDuel leading the way with over 328,000 downloads
00:43 in week one.
00:44 And DraftKings not far behind with 320,000,
00:47 but something that might surprise you even more, Craig,
00:49 last year DraftKings was actually number one
00:51 in this category during week one,
00:53 slightly above FanDuel.
00:55 So what that essentially means is FanDuel
00:58 rose a lot in downloads and DraftKings declined.
01:01 FanDuel's week one downloads were up 25% from last year.
01:06 You know, I think we've talked about in, you know,
01:08 over the past couple of weeks,
01:09 how DraftKings is kind of gaining market share
01:11 on FanDuel and a bunch of states.
01:12 And obviously downloads doesn't equate to handle
01:15 market share, revenue,
01:17 however you want to determine market share.
01:19 But it is interesting to see, you know,
01:21 DraftKings on top when they weren't on top last year.
01:25 And then, you know, or sorry, FanDuel on top
01:28 when they were not top last year.
01:29 And DraftKings still kind of close behind,
01:31 although not doing as well as last year.
01:34 But, you know, some other notable takeaways
01:36 from this download data, which is from JNP Securities.
01:39 You can read about it in the article
01:42 on legalsportsreport.com discussing week one.
01:45 Fanatics and PointsBet, you know, combined
01:48 took 120,000 downloads, which was third.
01:51 So that's significant 'cause, you know,
01:52 usually we're talking about BetMGM, Caesars,
01:55 even, you know, Barstool, BetRivers in some cases,
01:58 third, fourth, fifth.
01:59 But to see Fanatics and PointsBet, which just rebranded,
02:03 already, you know, third, you know,
02:05 means they're spending a lot of money
02:06 and people are signing up.
02:07 So then the next kind of phase of that is, you know,
02:11 are people staying on the app or people betting on the app?
02:13 And that's when we'll have to look to handle and revenue
02:17 to get those real market share numbers
02:18 throughout the season.
02:19 And then, you know, probably to no surprise here,
02:23 Barstool, which is gonna rebrand to ESPN Bet,
02:26 down 57% in downloads over week one.
02:29 So I'm honestly shocked that number wasn't higher.
02:33 They're just, they're not spending any money on it right now.
02:35 There's no promotions.
02:36 Some people don't even know what app the app is called.
02:39 So when it launches in November as ESPN Bet,
02:43 that's gonna be, you know, another interesting thing
02:45 to come back to and, you know,
02:46 see how those downloads are looking.
