More thunderstorms will move through the Northeast on Wednesday, bringing the risk of flash flooding and locally damaging conditions.
Transcript
00:00 Flash flooding has been a huge problem in New England this week with some serious flash flooding coming in to central and western Massachusetts.
00:09 Cities like Lemonster just north of Worcester seeing damage from flash flooding on Monday.
00:14 And even looking into the mid-Atlantic waking up to damage in Philadelphia and Baltimore this morning from flash flooding too.
00:20 All of this coming from this front here at least in the last 24 hours as it slowly crawls toward the coastline.
00:27 As it does we do have flash flood watches and advisories out.
00:31 You can see the flood watches in that forest green.
00:34 We're also dealing with that severe weather potential today which is something we are going to go through in just a moment.
00:39 Let's talk about those storm reports and why we've been so concerned for that flash flooding.
00:43 You can see here in areas like Hartford a lot of reports here of flooding along roadways, roads washed out.
00:49 Again sinkholes have been a problem this week because of the road conditions with all this water.
00:54 And there's just nowhere else for the water to go. The ground is so saturated.
00:58 We've seen so many of these instances in the past really two months that we just need a chance to dry out.
01:03 But unfortunately we're not going to get that just yet.
01:06 Your job in the meantime is just to stay tuned to the forecast.
01:08 Have the AccuWeather app on your phone and that way you get the watches and warnings right to the palm of your hand.
01:13 And know that that safe space when it comes to flash flooding is higher ground and not on the roadways.
01:18 Let's talk about severe weather here because that is a concern as well for New England.
01:23 Especially looking for Manchester on south through Springfield through Worcester out toward Boston.
01:27 Just as you're getting down 95 toward Providence, New Haven and even into Hartford and eastern Long Island too.
01:33 We are looking at the flash flood threat but we're also looking at the potential of some damaging gusty winds and isolated tornadoes.
01:40 That's a concern as we move through your Wednesday.
01:42 You'll see the storms really developing into the afternoon along this front.
01:45 They're still soaking. There's a ton of moisture in the atmosphere.
01:48 There's a lot for these storms to work with.
01:50 But we'll also see that severe weather threat ramp up at this point.
01:53 3, 4, 5 o'clock. We are looking for some of those storms to get nasty.
01:57 Some being the key word. It's not severe weather for everyone.
01:59 But you want to make sure if it's near you, you know what to do.
02:02 Alright folks, let's get you into the evening and you'll notice the storms start to push out to the east.
02:06 At this point we do lose steam here as the front starts to move off the coast and it's drier weather as we end the week.
02:13 Look, I love to end a forecast with some silver linings here for New York, Boston, Philly, D.C. and Pittsburgh.
02:19 Temperatures back into the 60s, 70s and even 80 degrees in D.C. on Thursday afternoon.
02:25 That said, we are preparing for the impacts of Lee in New England this weekend.
02:30 Take that time when the weather is gorgeous to prepare ahead of the storm.
