Special number plate for EV, road tax will be decided at the end of the year, says Loke

After attending an event in Selangor on Wednesday (Sept 13), Transport Minister Anthony Loke told reporters that the ministry would try to roll out several initiatives to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles (EV) in the country next year, including special registration number plates and new road tax structure for EV. 00:08 There are policies that we want to support the adoption of EV.

00:13 Number one is that we will review our road tax structure,

00:18 road tax rate for EV.

00:20 Hopefully by the end of this year, we will announce our new rate

00:23 so that it makes it more affordable.

00:25 Currently, of course, road tax is free until 2025.

00:40 So secondly, we also want to have a special number plate registration

00:44 for EVs so that you can differentiate the EVs from the ICE cars.

01:25 In terms of the number plates?

01:26 No, we have not decided anything yet right now.

01:28 When you mention EVs, the structure will be very attractive.

01:33 Roughly, how many percentage off compared to the normal?

01:36 No, we have not decided on what is the percentage.

01:39 But it definitely has to be more competitive compared to normal ICE cars.

01:46 In terms of mass catering airlines,

01:49 as you know that people have concerns about the food being prepared in the tent.

01:53 Is the Miniature Transport taking any measures to ensure the food safety

01:57 of the food that's being produced in these tents?

01:59 Of course, the food being prepared is safe.

02:02 It will be ensured by MAS.

02:03 Food safety is not under MOT.

02:05 So it has to be under the respective agencies.

02:09 But I'm sure and we can be pretty sure that it is definitely safe for consumption.
