Grimes was upset upon learning that Elon Musk had fathered twins with Shivon Zilis, an executive at his company Neuralink, at the same time as the public. The twins were born weeks before Musk and Grimes welcomed their second child via surrogate in December 2021. Grimes responded on Instagram that she had recently spoken to Zilis and described the conversation as "long overdue." She said communication about the twins "wasn't handled well in the past.”
