La La Land Dominates 2017 Oscars Nominations

The 2017 Oscars nomination list is out, and La La Land has received 14 nominations, while Meryl Streep has received her 20th.

00:04 La La Land has a record equaling 14 nominations. Meaning that the last time a

00:09 movie got 14 Oscar noms was in 1997 for Titanic and 1954 all about Eve.

00:20 And this also might be a historic moment because Emma Stone actually comes from the reality TV world.

00:26 Yes this is true. She actually starred in a 2004 VH1 show called The New Partridge Family.

00:31 I know! I was surprised myself.

00:33 And this year features a far more diverse list of nominees as Oscar joins the 21st century.

00:38 It's about time.

00:39 Including performers like Viola Davis, Dev Patel, Octavia Spencer and of course Denzel Washington.

00:45 But according to a release from the multi-ethnic media coalition, they are actually disappointed by the lack of ethnic diversity.

00:52 As only one in five out of the three top categories, Best Actress, Best Actor and Best Director, are represented by minorities.

00:59 And no surprise here, Meryl Streep has been nominated again for Best Actress for Florence Foster Jenkins.
