00:00 The Customs Department has crippled the activities of an international drug distribution syndicate
00:08 with the seizure of 436.2 kilograms of Ecstasy.
00:13 The drug, estimated at RM32 million, was seized at KL International Airport cargo complex
00:20 on August 29.
00:22 Customs Director-General Datu Zazuli Johan told reporters on Wednesday that this was
00:27 the biggest seizure of illicit drugs at the international airport this year.
00:33 He said officers on duty conducted an inspection on 36 boxes around 6.30pm following a tip-off.
00:41 Upon checking, they found colourful pills believed to be Ecstasy in 12 boxes, while
00:47 the remaining 24 boxes contained only breaks.
00:51 Zazuli said the contents of the boxes had been declared as tools to hoodwink the authorities.
00:58 A preliminary investigation revealed that the drugs had arrived from the Netherlands.
01:04 Malaysia was its final destination.
01:08 Zazuli said they have not made any arrests as the information in the import documentation
01:13 was fictitious.
01:15 He added that this was Customs' fifth drug seizure from the Netherlands at the cargo
01:20 complex this year, that the seized drug could be used by more than 2.1 million addicts.
01:26 The case is being investigated under Section 39B, Subsection 1, Subsection A of the Dangerous
01:33 Drugs Act 1952.
01:36 Zazuli appealed to those with information on smuggling activities to contact the Department
01:42 at 1800 888 855.
