00:00 Well, I did hope, I really hoped that we were going to win for Happy Valley, because that's
00:05 just been such a pivotal piece in my working life really.
00:10 And it's quite unlike any other piece that I've ever done, purely because I suppose the
00:16 production team have bonded so much.
00:21 We have the same production team right the way through for ten years.
00:26 People came back, that's a real test.
00:30 People came back after seven years.
00:33 People who have actually moved on into different areas, they may be running whole departments
00:39 in television studios, and they took sabbaticals and came back to work with us.
00:44 And that's a great testament to Sally and the power of the show.
00:49 You've really been put on the spot tonight.
00:50 You've had to go up there and make three speeches.
00:52 Horrific.
00:53 In your dizziest of daydreams.
00:54 You may think of one speech, but when it's second and third one, what's running through
00:57 your mind?
00:58 It's awful.
00:59 It's absolutely awful.
01:00 Sally Wayne write 'Where are you' and 'I need you', just a short monologue would be really
01:03 appreciated right now.
01:04 I don't know, because I'm not...
01:05 I don't know really.
01:06 Well, I suppose you just have to speak the truth, don't you?
01:07 Just speak from your heart and hope that you remember the names of the people who may just
01:19 employ you again in the future.
01:21 But you just hope you don't offend anyone.
01:23 It's not possible to thank everyone.
01:25 These teams of people, these shows are like juggernauts.
01:29 It just isn't possible to thank an entire team of 200 people.
01:35 One of the most important people who I didn't thank actually, and it's ridiculous, because
01:41 he is such an important person to me, was Gary Bailey, who was my driver.
01:48 He would pick me up at half five in the morning and he'd taff me out of the car at nine o'clock
01:52 in the evening and I'd get in the car and I'd look like death and he'd say, "All right?"
01:59 And he just...
02:00 He was so just brilliantly spirited.
02:05 Little things like that matter.
02:08 You know when like...
02:09 Because somebody just brings you a cup of coffee and you think, "Oh my God, that's fabulous.
02:15 Thank you."
02:16 You become so grateful to small nurses when you go into this...
02:19 Because you disappear down a rabbit hole.
02:22 Filming is disappearing down a rabbit hole.
02:24 You leave everybody you love, everything you know, for four, five, six months at a time.
02:31 Everything goes on hold.
02:32 And so you're very reliant on the people around you, their expertise, their humanity, their
02:42 care, and specifically with a show like Happy Valley, which is brutal.
02:50 On the good days it's brutal, on the bad days it's unspeakable, but it's a tough gig.
02:56 And I was so looked after.
