41 Minecraft Build Hacks
Transcript
00:00 This is every build hack you need to try in Minecraft 1.20.
00:03 Starting with this one using cherry wood.
00:05 And while the trees definitely look great,
00:06 if you take the wood by itself, it looks pretty ominous.
00:09 And what we can do with that is if we mix together
00:11 the cherry wood with a crimson stem,
00:13 and when you place them all on top
00:14 of something like nylium,
00:15 you'll notice we have the perfect thing to go together
00:17 to create a really cool infected tree stem.
00:19 Though I guess the only issue is that you couldn't build
00:21 this in the actual nether, since this wood would still burn,
00:23 but you know, it's a dead tree.
00:25 I guess that just makes it even deader.
00:26 Now I want to switch this over to a desert scene,
00:28 since I want you to see just how well the cherry leaves
00:31 can actually work in this bio.
00:32 And by just switching out your sandy floor
00:33 for a couple of cherry leaves,
00:35 we have the perfect thing
00:35 for a really natural looking carpet.
00:37 And best yet is that the cherry leaves
00:38 actually don't change with the desert color map,
00:40 unlike regular leaves.
00:42 I think you can see which one looks better.
00:44 Now, one of the most versatile blocks
00:45 that got added in this update is the new hanging sign.
00:47 And while it's pretty costly,
00:48 since to craft one of these,
00:49 you need six of the stripped logs and two chains,
00:52 you do get some really cool looks out of this.
00:54 Starting with, if we just lay down some trapdoors like this,
00:56 and then a hanging sign underneath both of these legs,
00:58 you get a perfect little picnic table.
01:00 And I think in a desert setting like this,
01:01 the bamboo trapdoor one looks particularly nice.
01:04 Just, you know, make sure your friend doesn't come by
01:06 and flip them up.
01:06 It's not much of a table.
01:07 You're really just taking a nap.
01:09 And while it's impossible to place these hanging signs
01:10 by themselves, all we have to do is link them up
01:12 to something like a trapdoor,
01:14 and then we'll have the perfect thing
01:15 for our little railroad crossing.
01:16 Now, granted, it doesn't lift,
01:17 so it's more of a railroad stopping.
01:19 But because those hanging signs have collisions,
01:21 they actually give us a great way
01:22 to make little railings for our bridges.
01:24 I love that bamboo placing sound.
01:26 And now here's a tip if you're in creative.
01:27 If you do Control and middle mouse button
01:30 to do the pick block, that'll copy the NBT data.
01:32 And now you can place down a whole row of these
01:34 without having to type in the actual message,
01:36 which gives us a great looking bridge
01:37 and one that you can't fall off of.
01:38 Both of those are appreciated.
01:40 What if we want to use our signs as, well, you know, signs?
01:43 In that case, they actually work great
01:44 mixing the hanging sign with the regular sign.
01:46 All you have to do is place down two support blocks,
01:48 your original sign on the bottom,
01:50 and then a hanging sign over top,
01:51 giving you seven lines of space
01:52 to put together your perfect message.
01:54 It just might be a little cropped
01:55 if you type something on the top.
01:56 Now, we've shown off this build hack in the past,
01:58 but I actually think this is
01:59 an even better implementation of it.
02:00 You could use these hanging signs
02:02 as a really convincing fallen bridge.
02:04 And with the way that the chains
02:05 actually connect these up, they have a collision box.
02:07 I think this looks so much better
02:08 than the sign design we've shown off in the past.
02:10 But since I made this too small,
02:12 it's really just more stopping you
02:13 from going over the bridge.
02:14 Though, given the state the bridge is in,
02:15 that might be for the best.
02:17 My actual personal favorite use
02:18 of these hanging signs so far
02:20 is if we do something like this user did here.
02:22 First, we're gonna have to build up into the sky.
02:23 And then with a couple of these iron trap doors
02:25 as fans, we can place blinking lights at the bottom.
02:27 And finally, add in our hanging sign
02:29 with the face design of your choice.
02:30 And we've got a little robot face.
02:32 Just add in red dye,
02:33 and it's a lot more of an attack drone,
02:35 which I would be angry too
02:36 if someone came by and broke my buttons.
02:38 Now, while it might be tough
02:39 to track down the new armor trims,
02:40 that doesn't mean that they're still
02:42 not very useful for build hacks.
02:43 So if you managed to get your hand
02:44 on some of the Vex ones,
02:46 then we can mix that together
02:47 with our iron or netherite chest plates
02:49 and get some really cool looking designs.
02:50 Now, what we wanna do here is mix together
02:52 the opposite color with each one.
02:53 So the quartz with the netherite
02:54 and the netherite with the iron,
02:55 which when you put it together,
02:57 gives you a perfect little suit and tie.
02:59 And I mean, the invite said black tie optional,
03:01 so I hope that means pants are optional too.
03:02 And we're not the only ones
03:03 that armor trims look great on.
03:04 Since if you were to dye a leather cap red
03:06 and then add that together
03:07 with a coast armor trim and some quartz,
03:09 then when we step inside
03:10 and put this on top of an armor stand,
03:12 if we drop that into place on three layers of snow,
03:14 we can push a block in.
03:15 And now we've got a little book on our floor.
03:17 And the real test to see if it works
03:18 is to put other bookshelves around it.
03:20 And even then, I still think it holds up.
03:22 Plus we didn't have to torture any librarian villagers
03:24 like we did in the past for the same effect.
03:25 It's a point for humanity as well.
03:27 And for another update on the old design
03:29 we've done in the past,
03:30 we're gonna make an even better floating lantern
03:31 that we've done before.
03:32 Since by taking a light in the center,
03:34 adding some banners around the sides,
03:35 then all we have to do is attach
03:36 one of the new hanging signs underneath.
03:38 And because we can angle these 45 degrees,
03:40 we can add in little flags hanging down from our lantern.
03:42 And at that point, you can add in as many
03:44 or as few as you want them to be.
03:45 They'll even look great at nighttime.
03:47 And visible too,
03:48 in case you wanna tuck a hidden message
03:49 above your friend's base.
03:50 And speaking of a hidden message,
03:52 probably the king of that is the new chiseled bookshelf.
03:54 Now by itself, it doesn't really look like a bookshelf,
03:56 just looks like a shelf right now.
03:57 But if you lay out a few of these
03:58 and start tucking in the books in the right places,
04:00 you can actually use this as a form of pixel art.
04:02 And while I wouldn't say it's exactly hidden
04:04 when it's the only books placed in the case,
04:06 if you add in some other ones around it,
04:07 then you can start to actually hide a message in here.
04:10 Now if you build one of these,
04:10 make sure you have a good leather farm,
04:12 since just that little high message
04:13 took me 34 of these books.
04:15 Now with all the new types of bamboo
04:17 that we have to play around with,
04:18 such as the mosaic, the planks,
04:19 and the actual stripped bamboo,
04:21 it's a joy for building,
04:22 and particularly in desert scenes.
04:24 By just mixing these blocks together
04:25 with some smooth sandstone like so,
04:27 we can get some really nice color palettes going on.
04:29 And then you could even mix up the patterns like this,
04:31 whether you're just doing something simple
04:32 like a wall like this,
04:33 or if you wanna go more out there
04:34 with a pillar design like so.
04:36 I think really any of these would work.
04:37 And since with bamboo, we get ourselves a new wood type,
04:39 that also means that we have a new bamboo pressure plate.
04:41 But now if you were to do one of these,
04:43 place down some raw fish,
04:45 and then a bamboo mat like so,
04:46 you'll see that although it glitches out a bit,
04:48 you got a perfect little sushi mat.
04:50 Now in the past,
04:50 we've recommended using hay bales for thatched roofs.
04:53 And while they look great,
04:54 they do have an ugly red band that goes around the side.
04:56 And trust me, it's not usual for me
04:57 to put ugly and red in the same sentence.
04:59 But to fix that,
05:00 if we use something like the new bamboo wood,
05:02 then this not only looks a lot cleaner,
05:03 but it also gives us stair and slab variants
05:05 to mess around with.
05:06 Plus different variants for the mosaic
05:08 and the regular bamboo type.
05:09 And at that point,
05:10 the patterns can get really fun to play around with.
05:12 Even if what I built kind of looks like a straw hat.
05:14 Now when bamboo was first released,
05:16 the first thing that many fans noticed
05:17 is that it looks a lot like spaghetti,
05:19 especially the mosaic block.
05:20 So why don't we just embrace it?
05:22 Since with an invisible item frame
05:23 and a mosaic block like this,
05:25 we can again put a heavy weighted pressure plate over top.
05:27 And we got ourselves some spaghetti noodles.
05:29 Now scaffolding can be an extremely useful block
05:31 to use in your build.
05:32 But useful and looking nice aren't always the same.
05:34 Though with just a few of these bamboo trap doors,
05:36 we can really take our scaffolding
05:38 and make it into something
05:39 that you're okay with leaving up after the build.
05:40 And plus it'll still be functional.
05:42 So even if your friend comes by
05:43 and kicks out the bottom of the scaffolding,
05:45 you'll still be safe on top of the actual bamboo.
05:48 Now, because of the way the strip bamboo
05:49 has its different directions,
05:50 if we add in a few to our street setting here,
05:52 we can get ourselves some really cool looking paving
05:54 to add to our road.
05:55 Which I've got to say,
05:56 at this point I prefer over the path block.
05:58 At least I'm able to ride a boat over these
05:59 without getting stuck.
06:00 Whereas path blocks,
06:01 that one pixel gap is all it takes to ruin it for you.
06:04 If you wanted to,
06:05 you could take your strip bamboo
06:05 and face it towards you like this.
06:07 So then when we add detail to the front,
06:09 it really starts to look like a window block.
06:10 Now granted you can't see through it,
06:12 but that might be nice
06:13 for trying to keep out passerby anyway.
06:15 Now in the past,
06:16 I've compared pink wool to cotton candy.
06:18 But if you look inside of the strip cherry wood,
06:20 I actually think that's a much nicer texture.
06:22 It's a lot smoother than the original,
06:24 that's for sure.
06:25 And then with an end rod as the stick,
06:26 we can mix this together with a little cart
06:28 and have a perfect cotton candy shop.
06:30 And I think the pink wool looks a lot better
06:31 as the awning than it ever did as the dessert.
06:33 And with 1.20's new archeology,
06:35 we have plenty of these new decorated pots
06:37 to well, decorate with.
06:38 I guess that much is obvious.
06:39 And while you can't plant anything inside of these,
06:42 they do only have a one block hit box,
06:43 despite what it might look like with this little lip here.
06:46 So if you add on different kinds of pressure plates
06:47 on top of them,
06:48 we can get some cool trims or lids to our actual pot,
06:51 which is way more than we've ever been able to do
06:52 with the small one.
06:53 And I think the one at the bamboo
06:54 looks particularly nice here.
06:56 Or you can bling it out with gold,
06:57 but that seems a little excessive.
06:59 Maybe if you want a gold chain on your urn, I don't know.
07:01 And while it's still true
07:02 that you can't plant anything inside of the decorated pots,
07:04 if you add on a fence posts like this,
07:05 and then some leaves out the top,
07:07 then you not only got a plant inside of your pot,
07:08 but it also fits it better than a regular sapling would.
07:11 Seems a little teeny.
07:12 Now, as this piglin's unfortunately gonna demonstrate,
07:14 we can not have piglins in the overworld,
07:16 at least not for very long.
07:18 But with the new piglin head
07:18 that we can get through charged creepers,
07:20 then if you have a zombified piglin
07:21 that can pick up loot and give it the head,
07:23 or should I say dispense the head on top of it,
07:28 then we'll have ourself our own piglin in the overworld.
07:30 You just might also wanna give it a golden chest plate
07:32 so it covers up some of the entrails.
07:34 Honestly, I don't know what to do
07:35 about the double ear situation on the side of its head,
07:38 but at least it's only one side of its head.
07:39 So maybe keep your pictures to its good side.
07:41 And in the new cherry blossom biomes,
07:43 you're gonna find a lot of these pink petals
07:44 hanging around on the floor,
07:45 which not only look great as is,
07:47 but because we're able to put different amounts of them
07:49 on the floor, we can also use these
07:50 for some really convincing pixel art.
07:52 And with how many you place down,
07:54 you can basically change the line thickness too.
07:56 So for all you digital artists,
07:57 this is basically asking for you to create something cool,
07:59 or at least cooler than whatever I was able to put together.
08:02 Or if you wanna use these same flower petals
08:03 a little bit more practically,
08:05 then because we're able to skew
08:06 how many are in a certain area,
08:08 we can make some really cool looking curved path design.
08:10 And for someone who hates building the traditional paths
08:13 as variety like so,
08:14 I would much rather just randomly place these down
08:16 and have something cool come out of it.
08:18 And come on, who doesn't wanna walk on flower petals?
08:20 That just seems so romantic.
08:21 I'm gay, I'm single, so how do I know?
08:24 Now, unlike in Zelda,
08:25 these pots are actually pretty resilient
08:26 and they don't fall,
08:28 which weirdly enough means that we can use one of these
08:30 to make ourselves a hot air balloon
08:32 with a few chains connecting it up.
08:33 And then of course, the balloon,
08:35 part of your hot air balloon,
08:36 place a candle perfectly in the hole
08:38 and light it to fuel our hot air balloon.
08:40 And then you can use a debug stick
08:41 to connect these up to the pot.
08:42 And there you go, ready for takeoff or stand still,
08:45 whichever one you prefer, I guess.
08:46 Now, while it's still true that we can only plant things
08:48 inside of the regular flower pot,
08:50 we mix that together on top of our decorated pot like this,
08:52 and it fits just right, the textures match,
08:54 and we can still plant our bamboo inside.
08:57 Or if you want nothing to do with plants,
08:58 then it's worth mentioning that the decorated pots
09:00 look great when placed on top of each other like this.
09:02 Now you got yourself a great looking brick pillar.
09:04 Or if you wanted to,
09:05 you can use some mud brick walls on the inside.
09:07 And when they connect up to the wall next to them,
09:08 I think this could look great
09:09 for some of the new rooms that you wanna build.
09:11 Plus you can add 20 different types of variety
09:13 to the patterns that you add on top of these.
09:15 It's either a decorator's fantasy or the worst nightmare.
09:17 I'll let you choose.
09:18 Now, the new seeds that we're able to get from the sniffer,
09:21 when you plant them down,
09:22 you notice that they start out looking great,
09:23 but when they grow up,
09:24 they look like they're an avatar reject.
09:26 Another way to fix this for our pitchy pot
09:28 is to place it down next to your potatoes,
09:29 and then place a string over top.
09:31 So then no matter how much time
09:32 or bone meal passes through it,
09:33 it's never gonna grow up to be two blocks tall.
09:35 And now you've got an overgrown potato
09:37 to mix in with the rest of your patch.
09:39 Just make sure you don't accidentally break the string
09:41 while you're harvesting your other potatoes.
09:42 Now, there's so many things to do with armor trims
09:44 that I'd be barely scratching the surface here.
09:46 So let's rattle through a few of my favorites.
09:47 And the first of those would be
09:48 that if you took some of these new shaper armor trims
09:51 and mixed it together with iron armor,
09:52 then for the surprisingly high cost of three netherite,
09:55 you could have yourself
09:56 the perfect set of stormtrooper armor.
09:58 And honestly, even without arms,
09:59 I'm sure they're as good as shots
10:00 as regular stormtroopers anyway.
10:02 And if you do the same steps with lapis lazuli,
10:04 instead just use a snout trim on your chest plate,
10:06 then just like that,
10:07 you've also got yourself a set of clone wars armor.
10:09 And we're not the only ones
10:10 who get to use the new armor trims.
10:11 Since if we go down here
10:12 and summon in a few mobs that can pick up loot,
10:14 then you'll notice that sure enough,
10:16 we can also get these out
10:17 in the different kind of armor trims as well,
10:18 which might just be too costly to give them in survival.
10:21 But for map makers,
10:22 this can make for some really cool super mobs.
10:24 If we take a set of red leather armor
10:26 and then add an eye trim to the helmet,
10:27 as well as the boots,
10:29 we can then also add a tide trim to our leggings.
10:31 And finally, a wild armor trim to our chest plate.
10:33 Until sure enough,
10:34 we've officially given ourselves
10:35 the full iron man treatment.
10:37 I mean, come on, doesn't that just look so cool?
10:39 With the changes to bamboo,
10:40 we also now have a new kind of bamboo boat,
10:42 or raft, I should say.
10:43 And what makes this better than a regular boat
10:45 is that if you were to place down enough snow layers like so,
10:47 stacking up four high,
10:48 then when you put the raft into place,
10:50 you can cover up the rest of it with carpet like this,
10:52 so that when you sit in the raft,
10:53 it looks like you're sitting on the carpet.
10:54 Or in my case,
10:55 it looks like I'm melting into the carpet.
10:57 So maybe choose a different color.
10:59 We're also not the only ones who can ride these things,
11:01 which means that if you get it just right,
11:02 we can now use these bamboo rafts
11:04 as a new kind of mob display case.
11:06 Or in the chickens case,
11:07 it doesn't seem like it likes it very much.
11:09 So maybe it's more of a mob torture chamber.
11:11 I don't think this is how they prefer their bamboo.
11:13 Now, while it might get confusing
11:14 trying to figure out which one's the bamboo mosaic
11:16 and which one's the bamboo planks,
11:17 you're gonna wanna learn the difference.
11:19 Since when you put them together in a floor like this,
11:21 you can start to make some really cool crisscross shapes
11:23 in the pattern.
11:24 Now you got yourself a perfect little bamboo mat,
11:26 or dance floor, I don't judge,
11:28 but society does. (laughs)
11:30 And that's not to say there isn't a use
11:31 for the actual green bamboo as well.
11:33 And so if you were to go over to a desert
11:34 and mix this in with your regular cactus,
11:36 then we can actually get a pretty convincing
11:38 looking fake cactus here.
11:39 And you can also plant little things on top of it,
11:41 giving us cactus fruit.
11:43 And at this point,
11:43 I well prefer this over the competition, sorry.
11:46 All right, the next one I was told is a surprise.
11:48 So, yep, still ain't surprises.
11:51 But unfortunately for all of us,
11:52 these bamboo blocks look a little too close
11:55 to faded yellow wallpaper.
11:56 And what I'll also mention
11:57 is that if you use some of the bamboo signs
11:59 and don't type anything on top of them,
12:00 then with the horizontal lines that they have on top,
12:02 they look pretty good for vents.
12:04 And now I'm just wondering how you're supposed
12:06 to noclip out of the back rooms.
12:08 (slurping)
12:09 Oh, there you go. (laughs)
12:11 Now I'm not normally someone who likes to build
12:12 with a lot of birch in my builds,
12:13 but with the advent of bamboo,
12:15 you can actually mix the two of these together
12:17 to where it looks like the birch
12:18 is sort of a faded version of the bamboo.
12:20 And at that point, it looks really nice.
12:21 Just make sure that you get the pattern
12:23 and amounts down right.
12:24 But that only covers the build hacks
12:25 that you're able to do with blocks.
12:26 And 1.20 also added in new mobs, like the sniffer.
12:30 (laughs)
12:32 Sorry, this was too good to pass up on.
12:33 I mean, come on, we've even got the little rascal
12:35 in the tough golem in here,
12:37 which is more than Mojang did in this update.
12:39 Tough golem's even functional.
12:40 But jokes aside, there actually is a use
12:42 for the sniffer inside of this new update.
12:43 You're just gonna have to use the right command.
12:45 Since if you're playing in creative
12:46 and you summon in a sniffer with the no AI tag,
12:48 then you'll notice that you'll have this great bush texture
12:51 to play around with.
12:52 And a signature sniffer sticking out too.
12:54 But if you cover that up with another sniffer,
12:56 we can really start to layer these
12:57 and get some pretty cool looking bushes.
12:59 And if you add in this age tag like this,
13:01 you can get a little baby sniffer as well.
13:03 Just be careful, 'cause if you place these
13:05 a little bit too close to the floor,
13:07 yeah, you might have a dead bush instead of a living one.
13:10 Moving on.
13:12 Now, archeology is a huge part of this update,
13:14 but the brush itself is actually a pretty nice texture
13:16 to play around with.
13:17 So much so that if you were to get yourself an armor stand
13:20 and then use something like the vanilla tweaks data pack
13:22 to give it arms and pose it right,
13:23 then we could give it a brush and some cobwebs
13:25 and essentially create our very own cleaning crew.
13:27 Just don't expect them to work very fast.
13:29 They're used to not doing much.
13:30 And with that folks, YouTube thinks you might like this video, so see if they're right
13:34 and have a good one.
