00:00 I was never this scared in my entire life until I went into the surgery room.
00:05 I was terrified of being put under and going through this.
00:09 I just didn't know if I was going to make it.
00:10 I had no clue.
00:13 But I knew I needed surgery and I got more terrified when they put the gown on me and
00:19 then they put me on the bed and they started carting me into this room.
00:22 And I remember the room opening and it was like this big white room with a metal table
00:28 and they lift me off and put me on this table and I'm just trembling and shaking at this
00:32 point.
00:33 And there's like six or seven doctors around me and I'm like, "This could be it.
00:37 This could be the last thing I see for all I know."
00:40 And I remember being shaking so much I couldn't breathe and calm down.
00:44 So they had an IV in me, they put some calming medicine in me or something and said a few
00:50 words and they're like, "You're about to go to sleep."
00:53 So I remember, the next thing I remember is being in a hospital bed, waking up to this
01:01 beeping sound.
01:03 This beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep.
01:07 I didn't know what was happening.
01:09 All of a sudden the nurse is shaking me saying, "Lewis, you need to wake up.
01:14 Wake up.
01:15 You need to wake up."
01:16 And I'm hearing this beeping and I'm like, "What is going on?
01:18 Am I alive?
01:19 Am I dead?"
01:20 I'm just like, I had morphine running through me.
01:22 I had no clue what was happening.
01:24 And it felt so good to go back to sleep.
01:29 Like I just wanted to sleep.
01:31 And so I would relax.
01:33 After a few minutes she'd wake me up.
01:35 I wouldn't open my eyes but I was awake.
01:38 And then I just kind of slowly want to go back to sleep.
01:41 And she keeps shaking me.
01:42 This happened for about an hour where I'd fall asleep, this beeping sound would go off.
01:47 I'd wake up scared but I just wanted to sleep.
01:51 And it wasn't until the moment they brought my girlfriend in at the time where she came
01:56 and she grabbed my hand and said, "I'm here.
01:59 I got you."
02:01 When I started to feel at peace and I started to slowly wake up and open my eyes.
02:07 But I just remember feeling terrified that this could be my last moments.
02:11 I had no clue what was going on.
02:14 My grandfather passed away years ago and I was close with him but I felt like I had a
02:19 great relationship and great 25 years of life with him where I don't feel like I missed
02:23 out on something.
02:24 It was just his time.
02:27 But this is a fear of mine is that I am really close to a lot of people and it's just inevitable
02:33 that someone's going to die at some point.
02:36 And it may be sooner than later.
02:38 So that's something I haven't faced adversity with yet in that part of my life.
02:45 And that's why I really try to appreciate and show gratitude to everyone in my life
02:50 in a moment.
02:51 You know, at the end of every one of my episodes I acknowledge my guests.
02:54 You know, I'm trying to acknowledge people as often as possible because I don't want
02:58 something to happen where they're not around and then I say to myself, "Man, I never shared
03:04 with them how much I appreciate them or how grateful I am for our relationship."
03:08 So that's why for me I'm always trying to live in that place of gratitude and appreciation
03:14 because they could be gone at any moment.
