00:00 Really confronting scenes here this evening.
00:04 Emergency personnel are currently working to retrieve four bodies from one sedan here
00:10 just south of Chiltern on the Hume Freeway at the Wankys Road intersection.
00:15 Now this sedan collided with a B double truck at around half past 10 this morning on the
00:20 Hume Freeway.
00:23 Police have spoken to media.
00:24 They said they're working to establish the cause of this crash but they haven't identified
00:29 the victims yet and are still working to notify Next of Kin.
00:32 What they have said though is that there are no children involved.
00:35 Here's a little of what police had to say earlier.
00:39 My understanding is the truck was heading northbound on the Hume Freeway and the car
00:44 was intending to turn left from the Wankys Road intersection onto the Hume Freeway.
00:50 We're still investigating that.
00:51 Sorry, still trying to confirm that full detail.
00:55 We're hopeful that we'll be able to formally identify all the persons involved within the
00:58 next couple of hours but we're still working through that at the moment.
01:01 Now the driver of this truck was a 30-year-old man.
01:04 He's currently in the Wodonga Hospital in a stable condition.
01:08 The hospital say he's expected to be released tonight.
01:11 Now he will undergo mandatory drug and alcohol testing but we've spoken with the director
01:17 of the Ron Finmore Transport Company who owned the truck that was involved in this crash.
01:23 They say that looking at the data, they've spoken with the driver.
01:26 He was just fresh off a 12-hour break and they believe that he was doing all the right
01:32 things.
01:33 And we do know that this case will be referred to the coroner.
