March on Washington 60 Years Later

Monday marks a huge milestone in American history. Sixty years since the "March on Washington" and the pursuit of civil rights. Doctor Martin Luther King Junior delivered his famous "I Have a Dream" speech on August 28, 1963.

00:14 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous

00:22 I Have a Dream speech on August 28th, 1963.

00:26 Tomorrow, people from across the country

00:28 will gather in Washington, D.C.

00:30 His daughter-in-law, Andrea Waters King,

00:33 will lead the event.

00:34 - We felt that it was imperative this year

00:36 as we go into the 60th anniversary

00:38 that we not commemorate it,

00:41 but that we find a way to re-inspire,

00:44 to re-dedicate ourselves to the ideals

00:47 of Martin Luther King and Coretta Scott King.

00:50 - Waters King says, while progress has been made in 60 years,

00:53 the work is far from over.

00:55 - We've seen an attack as it relates to hate violence,

00:59 anti-Semitism is at an all-time high.

01:02 We see books being banned.

01:04 We see history literally being erased.

01:08 We felt it imperative to come together

01:11 and show that we certainly have more in common

01:15 and that those that would wish for us to be divided,

01:19 that we're stronger together.

01:22 - The event at the Lincoln Memorial

01:23 is expected to draw tens of thousands of people,

01:26 including global civil rights leaders and celebrities.

01:30 It will end with a march

01:31 through the streets of the nation's capital

01:33 to honor the continuation of Dr. King's dream.

01:36 ♪ Young people just like a tree ♪

01:38 ♪ Standin' by the wall ♪
